Ex-Con From Salem Allegedly Shoots Deputy in Boston Hospital

The Salem News is identifying the shooter in an incident at Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary as Salem's Raymond Wallace.

The Salem News is reporting that a Salem man infamous locally for alleged masked robberies is the person who shot a sheriff's deputy at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

The Essex County Sheriff's Department confirmed to the News that Raymond Wallace, 35, of 1 Courageous Court in Salem, was the alleged shooter.

The deputy was shot during a struggle for his gun with a prisoner, our sister Patch on Beacon Hill reports. A second deputy shot the prisoner. The prisoner was in critical condition. The deputy's injuries are not considered life-threatening, reported the Boston Globe.

Wallace will be well-known to Salem Patch readers. He is accused of donning a mask like this ones from the movie "The Town" and robbing the PetsMart on Highland Avenue and the now-closed Borders Books in Peabody.
