At last! I'd like to sincerely thank The Friends of Winter Island for their continued persistence & dedication, in getting this task completed, through government due process and finally bringing a solution to light. Many years ago this was a simple task. One when the community would step in with pride and paintbrushes in hand and simply get the job done. These days with government process required for political streamlining of approvals, clearly these simple tasks can take a long time in processing. Just for the record, there were many of us involved in this process, who were willing to donate our time to get this most cherished, historical beacon of light icon restored. Bringing back a much needed, freshly painted, illuminated sight to see when entering our beautiful harbor. It still takes a village, although adding in a few years of political due process these days...but at least now, at last, we can finally see the light at the end of the government process tunnel! Mission accomplished Friends of Winter Island! Huzzah!

the government is shut down and the lighthouse gets painted? we have new parking meters that read if the car moves to reset and get more quarters (big money maker by the way) but they take the locks off the palmer cove park so when we go play and coach baseball for the kids we have to kick preacher jack off the bench and scrape the grounds for needles condoms and nips? can anything this city is doing make sense? why have we abandoned our childrens safety in salem and gone into a spending spree like a 16yr old girl in the mall...

We stay with friends in Salem, every second Summer and spend many happy days at Winter island! Great to hear "The Lighthouse" is to be repainted! It gives hours of pleasure and is your jewel for you all to enjoy! Greetings! JJ (Ireland)
