Join us for a Tree ID & Forest Ecology Hike in Salem Woods with forester Mike Simmons and environmental educator Stacy Kilb. We'll identify common, native and exotic trees and shrubs along Highland Park's Yellow Trail, and will discuss topics of forest ecology, including forest succession and the impacts of exotic insects and plants. Among the trees to be identified are multiple species of oaks and birches, red maple, white ash and several others.
Meet in the parking lot of Olde Salem Greens Golf Course, 75 Willson St., Salem, MA. We'll gather at the trailhead sign at the back of the lot.
The walk will be at a moderate pace over uneven, rocky terrain, lasting approximately 2 hours and covering 2.5 miles. Please bring insect repellant and plenty of drinking water.
This event is FREE and open to the public. You can join the Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/309227415902868/.
