Built in 1668, the house is a stunning example of Post Medieval architecture. Professional guides welcome groups year round for a remarkable journey that explores Salem’s maritime history, the architecture of the mansion including its famed hidden staircase, and the literary legacy of Nathaniel Hawthorne, author of The House of the Seven Gables. Adding to the site’s charm are spectacular three-season colonial revival gardens, and our unique museum store located on the grounds in a home from 1655. Tours of The Gables are from 10am to 5pm Mon - Sunday except from July 1st to Oct 31st when tours run from 10am to 7pm.
