ReplyTotally agree with you! It's difficult for me to walk down Lafayette street from my house to the library, or museum (two of our favorite places!) with my son. Wish there were more action taken about this.

ReplyThanks for posting video! Environmental concerns aside - this is a really safe, family friendly activity that Salem promotes that turns a typically boring incidental moment (throwing the tree away) into a community building event. That, I think, is commendable.

ReplyYou all totally scooped me! I was in the process of writing this short piece for my blog about how wonderful (and sometimes forgotten) Winter Island is. Thanks for providing more information about Winter Island. I love it!

ReplySecond the comment about Puleo's although it has more of a diner-esque feel. Also, Highland Ave is right on the bus line, and there's a Donut City in Lynn a few blocks at the intersection of Highland and 129A/Chestnut St. (http://www.urbanspoon.com/u/map/1521606/restaurant/Boston/Donut-City-Lynn)
Another area missing a coffee shop is Salem is over near the College. I can't believe there's 9,000 students that attend and no place to sit over a cup of coffee with friends anywhere within a half mile!

Love the letter!
Wondering if you've tried the grated salad though? Especially for winter root vegetables (like turnips, beets, carrots, and cabbage) it's tops!
