TELL US: Which Municipal Buildings Most Need TLC?

City Hall is currently in the midst of renovations.

With City Hall getting a makeover, we want to know which other municipal buildings you think could use a little TLC. The first phase of the $2 million renovations at City Hall will include improvements to the roof and the installation of skylights, according to the Salem News. Do you think other municipal buildings are in need of a little work? If so, which ones needs it the most? Let us know in the comments. Remember to keep it clean. If you violate our terms of use (check it out here) your comment will be deleted and your account may be suspended. If you have the urge to use profanity, an asterisk "*" will not suffice. What Do You Think of Salem's October Bullhorn Population?

Tell us what you think about our yearly bullhorn crowd in the comments, but please keep it respectful.

What would October be in Salem without people exercising their first amendment rights? Oftentimes, these people carry bullhorns, which they use to amplify their messages. In 2008, the Salem News reported a preacher with Repent America was arrested after he ignored police officers' orders to cease use of a bullhorn. Last weekend, zombies took on preachers in Lappin Park. This past weekend, some people took bullhorns into their hands, positioned themselves next to those sharing their religious views and had some other opinions and thoughts to share. What are your thoughts on Salem's weekend bullhorn users? What do you do when you pass them, if anything? Does it affect your quality of life? Tell us in the comments. Remember to keep it clean. …

I have done some research on these folks, and I will admit, some baiting of them with my own bullhorn ($34.99 at a store located ironically across from one of their favorite sites to preach...) First off, these people are violent. I have been threatend by them and their supporters no less than 4 times. On Halloween one of them even resorted to trying to physically shove me around. TELL US: When Do You Turn On Your Heat?

With heating prices on the rise, when's a good time to turn on your heat? Before Columbus Day? After Halloween?

Brrr! If you're like me, you like to save money wherever you can and that includes heating costs.  This year, I'm doing my best to save on heating costs by wrapping up under nearly every blanket in the house. I'm hoping to not turn on the heat until well after Halloween this year, but it's getting chilly!  In fact, the North Shore is under a freeze warning until 9 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures could drop below freezing and even "bring an end to the growing season," according to NWS. It might even be time to turn up the heat. When do you turn on the heat? Have you already had it cranking? Tell us in our comments section!

TELL US: If Salem Were an Animal, What Would it Be?

Trust us, this question is appropriate. Read on to find out why and share your thoughts.

So, you might think the question we're about to ask is a strange one, but let's face it — we're in Salem; it's Halloween, and practically anything goes. In honor of last week's Haunted Happenings Grand Parade theme (World Animal Day) and inspired by the sightings of animals (AKA costumed people) all over town, we want to know what you think about the following question: If Salem were an animal, what would it be? Let us know what you think in the comments, and be sure to tell us why you answered as you did. Remember to keep it clean. If you violate our terms of use (check it out here) your comment will be deleted and your account may be suspended. If you have the urge to use profanity, an asterisk "*" will not suffice. What Should the City Do About Bangkok Paradise?

The business was in the news this weekend — what are your thoughts on the issue?

The Salem Police reported a stabbing and a 50-person unruly group in front of Bangkok Paradise on Sunday (Read about the situation here). This morning, contributor William Legault shared his thoughts on the situation, including how he believes the city should handle it (What did Bil have to say?). Now, we want to hear from you — What should the city do about Bangkok Paradise? Do you see similar issues in other parts of the city? Let us know in the comments. Remember to keep it clean. TELL US: What's This 'Esquire' Witch Saying?

Halloween season is just about here — what do you think this witch is saying (as she flies over Salem)?

Salem historian Nelson Dionne is at again, with another vintage selection. This time, Nelson sent us a selection from a March 1942 edition of Esquire. With Haunted Happenings just days away from taking over downtown Salem, we want to know — What is this witch saying? Let's assume the duo is flying over Salem. Tell us in the comments.

TELL US: Are You Affected by Noise from Local Businesses?

City councilors discussed the bench outside In a Pig's Eye on Thursday.

A bench outside In a Pig's Eye was the center of conversation at Thursday night's City Council meeting. Ward 2 Council Michael Sosnowski told the city council residents nearby have complained of noise and people congregating. During their discussion, councilors discussed the possibly of a bench that can be taken in at night and whether or not it's the bench that causes issues or the actual people. The issue of permitting the bench was also brought up. Councilors said a permit could be issued but it would "open a can of worms" when it comes to any benches on the sidewalk in Salem. Several councilors also said benches are a "nice thing to have" in the city for both citizens and residents. In the end, councilors voted to allow the bench to …

TELL US: Which North Shore Community Has the Worst Road Rage?

We want to know where you've spotted troubles on the road.

Whether you're commuting, running some errands or on a Sunday drive enjoying all our region has to offer, we're sure you've experienced it or at least seen it — road rage.  It's often in police logs, and you've probably had a few choice words yourself when you've been cut off or seen someone on the cell phone. North Shore residents, we want to know — which community has the worst road rage problem? Where are the worst spots when it comes to driving? Tell us in the comments. Remember to keep it clean. Well, let me make myself clearer, Mr Flapjacks. I tried flagging your comment as inappropriate, but the powers that be didn't bite. However, I do feel that slurring an entire community as a bunch of drunk-drivers, or would-be drunk drivers, doesn't seem to be in the real spirit of the question being asked. I am sure you were just trying to funny; but what you succeeded in was being insulting. And…   more ›

Where Are Salem's Most Ignored Stop Signs?

Stop signs are not optional, but they're sometimes treated as if they are.

There are hundreds of stop signs in Newport, but all too often, they are overlooked when drivers are in a rush. We have all seen it and probably many would admit to a stop sign roll-through at one point in time.   Do you know of a location where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored? Share where it is in the comments section, below.

TELL US: What Do You Think of Salem's Ongoing Paragliding Headlines?

Paragliding makes it into the news again — what do you think of the situation?

Remember that paraglider who was arrested by the Salem Police last week? Well, Patrick Tarmey was at it again on Sunday, and this time he had to be rescued on Eagle Island after his propeller broke, the Salem News reported Monday.  The outlet reported the Harbormaster rescued Tarmey.
