The Salem mother who allegedly slashed her children's throats before setting fire to their Pope Street apartment in March will continue to be held in the hospital per a Superior Court judge's Monday decision, according to the Salem News. On March 18, Goodwin allegedly slashed her children's throats before setting their Pope Street apartment on fire and walking barefoot to the Salem Police station. On the night of the incident police said Goodwin told them "I did what I had to do to protect my children." The outlet reported she is due for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 25

Tanicia Goodwin was arraigned in Salem Superior Court Tuesday, where she plead not guilty, according to the Salem News. On March 18, Goodwin allegedly slashed her children's throats before setting their Pope Street apartment on fire and walking barefoot to the Salem Police station. Her case had been moved from district court, and Goodwin will appear next week for a status hearing, the outlet report. The Salem News reported Goodwin is still receiving treatment at a mental health center. On the night of the incident police said Goodwin told them "I did what I had to do to protect my children."

Mom who allegedly slashed kids' throats in March has been indicted, and her case is moving from District to Superior Court.
Tanicia Goodwin has been indicted by a grand jury, and her case is being moved from District to Superior Court, according to the Salem News. She will appear in Superior Court next month, the outlet reported. Tanicia Goodwin has been moved out of Worcester State Hospital to the Massachusetts Correctional Institution in Framingham as a grand jury is assembled for her case. Goodwin, 25, allegedly slashed her children's throats before setting her Pope Street apartment on fire on March 18. On Thursday morning at Salem District Court, her probable cause hearing was moved to June 11. Assistant District Attorney Melissa A. Woodard said the grand jury should be assembled and Goodwin indicted by the June 11 date. The girl whose throat was allegedly slashed by her mother is out of the hospital; her brother has not been released.
Tanicia Goodwin's 3-year-old daughter, Erica, is out of the hospital, according to the Salem News. Her 8-year-old son, Jamaal, is still at Children's Hospital Boston with a wound described at "more severe" by the Salem News. Goodwin, 25, allegedly slit her children's throats on March 18 before setting her Pope Street apartment on fire and walking to the police station barefoot. Police said she admitted she harmed her children during questioning. At Goodwin's March 27 dangerousness hearing, the assistant DA said Goodwin has had a history of anger issues. Department of Children and Family Services records indicate Jamaal said his mother hit him because he "did not know what 10 plus 10 was."
