Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Salem. Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities. Wondering when Opus is going to open on Washington Street in Salem? We've got an answer for you.

Every week we answer a question sent in by one of our readers as part of our You Ask...Patch Answers column. This week, we fielded a question on our Salem Patch Facebook page from a local resident who wondered when she could expect the Serenitee Restaurant Group's new restaurant, Opus, to open in the former home of the Green Land Cafe on Washington Street. They asked: Any idea when Opus is opening on Washington Street? Although the original plan was to open sometime this month, the latest timeline forecasts a March opening, a Serenitee Restaurant Group representative said Monday afternoon. At a meeting in August, the Salem Licensing Board unanimously approved the transfer of the Green Land Cafe's liquor license to applicant Nolo Opus. Do …

Coming Soon to Salem: Lilith's Lair

A new collectibles and spell candle shop, Lilith's Lair, will open soon on Wharf Street.

Lilith's Lair, which will pride itself as the "Home of the Authentic Salem Spell Candles" will be opening soon on Wharf Street. The shop will be opened by Salem newcomers Anthony Dibenedetto and his wife, Gina, and will offer Lenox, Waterford and Royal Albert fine collectibles at clearance prices. "We moved here recently and we decided we wanted to open a store in Salem and sell items that aren't already available here," Anthony Dibenedetto said Monday afternoon. "Between this week and next week, we're going to be setting up the store, but we'll open up the doors while we're painting just so people can stop by."
