The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday, May 30 5:29 p.m. — Police responded to a call about undesirables camped out in the cemetery on High Street. Police were not able to locate anyone. 5:51 p.m. — Police arrested Michael Worthley and Domingo Madera (see below) for trespassing at a property on Washington Street. Police said they have received many calls about people on the property engaging in illicit activity. 6:15 p.m. — Police said a man was placed under arrest after he was seen drinking a 40-ounce bottle of Milwaukee's Best Premium Beer at the bus stop on Derby Street. 6:31 p.m. — Fumes from a paint shop going into a house were reported on Ocean Avenue. 6:…

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, May 26 12:36 a.m. — A loud party was reported on Essex Street. Police said the woman agreed to end the party for the night. 12:52 a.m. — Police said a loud band was reported at the Black Lobster. 1:01 a.m. — Police responded to a call about a one-vehicle accident on Marlborough Road. The responding officer saw a large cement retaining wall that had been struck by an unknown vehicle. The "wall was crushed inwards and cracked open in two spots," police said. The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Sunday and Monday. Sunday, May 20 4:18 p.m. — Police responded to Lafayette Street on a report of threats. A woman said she had been served eviction papers the Friday prior, and "she claimed that the constable threatened her" and said "he was going to drag her out of the apartment on Tuesday." 4:54 p.m. — A missing person was reported on Lafayette Street. 5:16 p.m. — A neighbor yelling in a back yard was reported at Derby and Becket streets. Police spoke with a woman who said "she was not yelling, just talking loud." the following was submitted by Heather Famico. As you may know, the city owns and operates the Teen Resource Center which is located at 50 Leavitt St. in Salem. The center is used by the Plummer Home for Boys for teen services in the afternoon - music club, basketball tournaments, dance club, anger management classes and has an on-site counselor for the teens. Recently, we formed a partnership between the Teen Resource Center and the North Shore Community Development Coalition (NSCDC) to use the center to provide NSCDC English classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8PM. At present, we have 9 students, all from the Dominican Republic, who speak limited English.  On May 10, Salem Police Chief Paul Tucker came to our class. He …

Cruiser Struck During Chase After Highland Avenue Robbery

Man arrested after he bailed his pick-up truck and led police on a foot chase.

A man was arrested Saturday after he robbed a Highland Avenue business and then led police on a foot chase, according to scanner reports. A police cruiser was struck during the pursuit, according to scanner reports. The cruiser, struck at approximately 3:16 p.m., was disabled and needed to be towed, according to reports. The address of the robbery was listed at 450 Highland Ave. — the address of the Walmart close to the Lynn border. Lynn, Salem, Peabody and Salem State forces assisted with the chase. Reports indicate the suspect initially fled in a pick-up truck, then bailed it and fled on foot in the Gallows Hill area. The suspect was wearing an orange shirt. Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Clipper Ship Inn

Police arrest Salem woman who told them someone else took her car and hit the motel.

Police said a woman drove into a unit at the Clipper Ship Inn early Wednesday morning and then told police someone else had been behind the wheel. Police arrested Sandra Picariello, 48, of 40 Bridge St. (the motel address), on a charge of operating under the influence of liquor after they responded to the building at 2:33 a.m. When they arrived, officers said they spoke to the caller, a representative from the Clipper Ship, who said Picariello, a resident of one of the units, "drove her motor vehicle into the front door to units 5-8." The woman also reported Picariello had "called her and related that someone hit the building with her motor vehicle and then parked it."
