Dog Found Tied Up in Freezing Temps

A dog was reported discovered left out in freezing temperatures on Lafayette Street Wednesday evening.

With overnight low temperatures dipping into the single digits in Salem, let this story serve as a reminder to bring your pets in this time of year. At 5:39 p.m. Wednesday, a Lafayette Street resident reportedly called police to complain about a dog that had been "barking outside for three hours." The temperature at the time, according to this morning's police log, was 15. The local animal control officer, Donald Famico, reportedly found a short-haired Weimaraner tied to a rope in a nearby backyard and waited for the owner to get home. When the owner returned home, Famico reportedly notified them that "a summons could be issued for a cruelty to animals violation" for leaving the dog out in this weather, according to the log entry.
