Which Salem restaurant served up this plate?
ANSWER: This is not a pizza. This is, as a few readers did correctly guess, a meatball calzone. Laurie Claing Austin correctly guessed on our Facebook page that this is from North House of Pizza. Congratultaions, Laurie! I'm lucky enough to live literally around the corner from North House of Pizza. Great folks there. And that "small" calzone fed my wife and I two meals each. I have to say I've never had a calzone quite like it. I think of calzones as being pockets, not the "pizza sandwich" the North House of Pizza calzone is. Either way, it was delicious. ~~~~~ Each weekend we post a photo of a dish from one of Salem's restaurants. In the comment section, make your guess about which restaurant served the meal. ANSWER: This week's "Video Guess the Restaurant" is...Kings! I'm lucky enough to live right around the corner from here. And I have to put this as my favorite all-time steak bomb, beating out the one from Same Old Place in my old neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. We didn't get many guesses this week. Maybe this will be the first and last "Video Guess the Restaurant." ~~~~~ Each weekend we post a photo of a dish from one of Salem's restaurants. In the comment section, make your guess about which restaurant served the meal. We'll circle back with the answer on Monday. This week I've used a 14-second video instead of a photo. Can you guess which Salem restaurant served this plate? We'll be back with the answer on Tuesday.
ANSWER: As several of you rightly guessed, this plate of Mexican goodness is from Howling Wolf. Specifically, these are tacos al pastor. I had these with my wife and sisters-in-law. Much beer was consumed and a good time was had by all. Thanks for the guesses, everyone! ~~~~~ Welcome back to Guess the Restaurant. We took last weekend off for the blizzard. Can you guess which Salem restaurant served this plate? We'll be back with the answer on Monday.
ANSWER: This is the slow-roasted pork sammie, the signature dish at The Old Spot. I'm originally from North Carolina, so my standards are pretty high for barbecue. I give high marks to this sandwich. The rye bread and dijonnaise set off the meat nicely. I also have to give The Old Spot props for taking such good care of my wife and our friend Laura. Warm, knowledgeable service in a welcoming, low-key atmosphere. Thanks, everyone who made guesses this week! ~~~~~ Each Saturday I'll post a photo of a dish from one of Salem's restaurants. A round up of North Shore restaurant and food news.
When you're looking for a night out and a break from cooking, you might want to know what's new not just where you live, but in other nearby North Shore communities. Here's our round up of the latest food news in the area: Sad news for fans of pierogi and Gypsy pancakes: Cafe Polonia will be closing its doors soon. Having just moved to Salem and only eaten there twice, I know I'll miss the Polish and Eastern European restaurant. If you've never been, I recommend you go before it's gone for good. I was especially impressed with the beet soup. Self-serve frozen yogurt has come to downtown Danvers. You pick your own flavors and toppings at Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt. One 12-year-old who came in just after they opened made his with 1.5 pounds …
