5 Things to Start the Day: Oct. 30

Here are some tidbits from about town.

We're sure you've heard by now — Salem schools have a two-hour delay this morning. Thank you to all of you who contributed to our live blog yesterday. It really was a team effort — from your amazing photos to your street by street observations. As an FYI, courtesy of our friends at Danvers Patch — "The MBTA said in an alert issued at about 9 p.m. on Monday that it will resume all regular service on Tuesday with the exception of the Providence commuter rail line south of Boston." Class D driving tests are cancelled in Massachusetts today, according to Gov. Deval Patrick. If you have pictures you didn't get a chance to upload yesterday, feel free to add them here.

Here are some tidbits from about town.

In case you missed it yesterday, the Flying Saucer Pizza Co. now has beer and wine. Find out more here. We've had some people ask whether or not there was a fire on Lafayette Place yesterday. We can confirm there was an electrical issue, and the Salem Fire Department was involved. There was no fire, but the Red Cross did assist several residents with housing. Your last chance to catch Scary Mary is this weekend. Check out more here. Speaking of spooktacular events, be sure to check out Fangtasm: A True Blood Bash. You can find more here. The Salem City Council will be meeting tonight at 7 p.m. Be sure to head on over to City Hall.

We hope everyone had an amazing time in Salem this weekend. Be sure to upload your very best Halloween photos to our Halloween contest gallery. You might win some super-cool Salem prizes. If you didn't see it, there were a lot more "Hocus Pocus" airings than we initially realized. Check them out here. Thank you to Joe Quigley for this thoughtful blog post on his friend Mo. We really appreciate your view as we recognize Breast Cancer awareness month, Joe. The Licensing Board will be meeting at 6 p.m. this evening. Have you checked out the alley by Dave Eng's Flowers? It's pretty awesome and worth a look. Check out a photo of this super creepy Halloween spot attached to this post.
