Salem Moviegoers Rallying to Save CinemaSalem

An online fundraising effort to 'Save CinemaSalem' is halfway there and picking up steam.

An online fundraising effort to save CinemaSalem that kicked off Tuesday is halfway to reaching its goal and gaining momentum. Theater Owner Paul Van Ness has enlisted the help of Kickstarter, an online fundraising platform, in the hopes of raising the $60,000 needed to buy digital projectors. Without the projectors, Van Ness said the theater won't be able to show the latest Hollywood films and will force him to close up shop in a matter of months, according to this video on the Kickstarter page. Click Here for a look at the Save CinemaSalem Kickstarter fundraiser page. As of early Thursday morning, the effort was halfway there - with 488 backers pledging to raise $30,000. Will you be making a donation to the cause? Let us know why or why …

I was on board the first day. Another way to support Salem and it's Downtown. Thrilled to be able to help a true asset of our wonderful city!   more ›
