Cafe Polonia in Salem Closing Feb. 12

Cafe Polonia's downtown Salem location will close its doors on Feb. 12. Here's a letter from the restaurant's co-owner.

The following Letter to the Editor was submitted by Cafe Polonia co-owner Darek Barcikowski: Despite changes, restaurant industry in Salem continues to prosper Tuesday, February 12th, will be the last day Café Polonia in downtown Salem will be open business. Soon after that, it will be taken over by new owners who, after minor renovations, will reopen the location under a new name. While the new restaurant will feature some of Polonia’s menu items, the new concept will be significantly different. Café Polonia is one of a number of restaurants in our community which have recently closed or changed hands. While this trend may suggest that the number of dining establishments in Salem is not sustainable, I believe that not to be the case. …

Cafe Polonia Closing Up Salem Location

Cafe Polonia is closing its location in downtown Salem.

  Pretty soon, Cafe Polonia fans will have to drive to Boston to get their pierogi fix. The Eastern-European and Polish restaurant's downtown Salem location will be closing its doors sometime in the next few weeks, owner Darek Barcikowski said Tuesday. We reported earlier this morning that the cafe would be closing at the end of the month, though that information, which we received from an employee Monday morning, was incorrect, according to Barcikowski. Cafe Polonia specializes in dishes such as cabbage and beet soup, goat cheese salad, herring, dumplings, pierogis and kielbasa. The restaurant's location on Dorchester Avenue in Boston will remain open. Barcikowski said he is in the process of selling the restaurant space and expects to …
