one of the first things i do when visiting Salem, after checking-in and dropping off my luggage, is to make a bee line to the Shanty. ever since i first stumbled upon this gem of a place, with great food--you can't go wrong, the atmosphere is awesome with a patio perfectly situated for people watching, and the live music is an added bonus. i bring all my friends here when we are in town and they all agree, the Shanty is awesome and famous now, ever since the Diners, Drive-in's & Dives espisode. congrats!
We love the Lobster Shanty. Just about every weekend in the good weather will find us and our dog here either Sat or Sun. She loves the doggie menu (grilled chicken is a big favorite) and we love the people menu (mac and cheese is a big favorit, especially with the lobster in it - it's to die for!). The drinks are generous without being overpriced, and the staff is friendly and...ah surly and mean in the best way <grin>. Much as I'd hate to wait for a table, I have to urge you to try the Shanty if you haven't already, you'll be glad you did.
best lobster roll...ever. the black pepper crusted burger also tops my list of best burgers on earth. easily my most favorite spot to spend a summer/fall afternoon. good food...good music...very salem.

Gets five mice, I mean stars from me.They do need to remedy what is an out and pout falsehood. The waitresses are not surly, the beer i not warm and the food is not lousy. Shame on you for for fostering this lie upon the dining public..
