Monday Essentials: Canal Street Closed This Week

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your week in Salem.

Today is Monday, Aug. 26, and here are the five things you need to know

1. You'll want to be prepared for some wet weather this week. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect rain-showers and thunderstorms on Monday and Wednesday. Otherwise the daily high temperatures will be in the high 70s and the overnight lows will be in the mid-60s.

2. The city announced last week that Canal Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Aug. 28 at the intersection of Broadway and Ocean Avenue. The street closure is expected to last for three weeks, depending on the weather. 3. The Salem School Committee will meet tonight in City Council Chambers at City Hall on Washington Street. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., according to the posted agenda

4. Salem's Design Review Board will meet Wednesday night on the third-floor of the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., and will feature an update regarding the Turner's Seafood & Market that will open soon on Church Street

5. Be sure to stop by the Salem Farmer's Market in Derby Square Thursday afternoon. The market runs from 3 to 7 p.m. Click Here to check out a photo gallery from a market earlier this year.
