Monday Essentials: Tips for Keeping Your Kids Safe

Here are the five things you need to know before you start your week in Salem.

Today is Monday, Aug. 19, and here are the five things you need to know:

1. It should be a picture-perfect week in Salem. The National Weather Service is predicting that local residents can expect it to be sunny all week, with daily high temperatures in the 80s and overnight lows in the mid-60s. So be sure to get out and enjoy it while this weather lasts.

2. The YMCA of the North Shore in Salem will offer free training for parents Tuesday night. The event is scheduled to run from 6 to 8 p.m. and the child safety session will have on-site child care sponsored by the YMCA.

3. The Seven Lectures at The Seven Gables lecture series will continue Wednesday night with a presentation by Emmy-winning reporter and best-selling author Hank Phillipi Ryan. Phillipi Ryan will share how she went from a reporter at Rolling Stone Magazine to the US Senate and then to under-cover investigations for NBC to following her dreams.

4. The Salem Historical Commission will meet Wednesday night at the City Hall Annex on Washington Street. The meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is expected to feature a discussion regarding the demolition of several downtown buildings, according to the posted agenda

5. Just in cast you hadn't heard, Boston Harbor Cruise's new patio bar at the Salem Ferry Landing is now open for business. Click Here to take a virtual look around Salem's newest waterfront hangout.
