The Spirit of Salem!

A GRAND good day to you all dear friends of Salem!

In recent days I was reminded yet again of the truism that inevitably introduces itself to us all regarding the forces motivating change in our life! We all know the power of these at times and it’s a matter of the nature of living that we will eventually find ourselves faced with moments when altering events or situations arrive unexpectedly on our doorstep to change the person we thought we were into who we suddenly become. For their force of presence, they also force us to stop and deeply contemplate the meaning of our lives and how our past has brought us to our evolving present.

Yes, the death of a loved one, the mire of difficult times perhaps that we’re finding it hard to climb our way out of or even being suddenly faced with a past we thought was long gone and forgotten. We all have or will have the presentation of some unforeseen progenitor that will act as the catalyst for a sudden thrust forward along our path!

The most critical thing is that we try to not treat it like some horrible disease, but rather try to embrace its energy and to treat it as a golden doorway to a magnificent new dawning pathway forward with a brand spanking new rainbow as our guide along our way!

I was just the other day faced with the untimely death of a very dear and much beloved aunt who was just discovered deceased in her home. The event was of course very emotional and not to make it any easier her adored cat of some 18 years had also been found deceased right along with her. The entire theme harkened to Shakespeare in my mind. It’s odd I found myself thinking how life changing events like this can be for us all! When we lose someone in our lives we think of where we will go now, what will life hold in store for us, what dreams haven’t I moved my way towards yet and can we, and most of all, where am I and why am I where I am right now in my life?

It all reminded me of another morning in the recent past when along one of my forays to Salem historic center, I was in the midst of another marvelous breakfast at Red’s Sandwich Shop off of Essex. The quiet morning served as a session in mild retrospection as I sat looking out the window in a state of half-meditating and half mindful inclusion. If you wonder what I looked like at the time have a peek at my website, the shot on the front page is this very moment! It was a thought suddenly that struck the chord of my memory and the prime chord was then as is now in the midst of my family’s sudden loss: “Home!”

As I sat watching so many people making their way along the sidewalk, many no doubt going to work, others to their own particular destinations for whatever the purpose, I couldn’t help but to recall the thought that many I was noticing did indeed choose to call this place their home.

Why?

What moves us all I thought to choose some particular place in which to live and to spend such a preponderate portion of the most active and intimate periods of our lives?

Why here?

Then it dawned on me that there really are no set of occurrences or gatherings of particular living circumstances that usually make these choices for us. We all make these choices for ourselves and apart from the instance of them being our places of birth or being family associated driving our presence, it was all in the same general spirit that influenced my own choice a while ago that in its way influenced so many others here as well!

On this day as I look to Salem and its spirit as a positive force in my personal life now, I can’t lose the reinforcing motif that paints its fabric in such wonderful colors for me as it does for so many others obviously!

Yes, there really is a “Spirit of Salem” that just occupies the souls of so many people and it influences their waking thoughts to come and live here and more importantly to choose to call this place their “home.”

Home, what a marvelous word this is!

I just have to say on this day that if it wasn’t for the dawning spirit of Salem as a place, as a motivating force for me to look forward to calling my home in life, something would seem as if it were missing!

Thank you all of you, the long time and marvelously seasoned spirits of Salem for presenting yourselves so wonderfully in my presence!

Don’t ever think you don’t inject a sense of positivity and hope because you have done that for this really meek, modest and humble soul at a time when he needs it the most in his life!

Love, light and the brightest of blessings to you all in your fine day!
