Coffee With a Captain: Spencer Bergholtz [VIDEO]

Spencer Bergholtz is a three sport high school athlete and is the focus of this week's Coffee with a Captain column.

Many of the athletes competing on Salem's winter high school sports teams are watching their seasons wind down, but some, like Spencer Bergholtz, are getting ready to play another sport this spring.

For this week's Coffee With a Captain Salem Patch sports column, we sat down with Hamilton-Wenham High School student Spencer Bergholtz, who currently serves as the assistant captain on the combination Salem/Hamilton-Wenham hockey team.

Although his senior hockey season won't end with the playoff berth he would have liked, Berholtz has amassed some pretty impressive individual stats and ended up leading the Northeastern South league in goals with 15 and is second in overall points with 26.

What made you want to play hockey?

My Dad played hockey his whole life and he ended up playing at a high level in high school and then went on to play in college. I grew up learning from him and he coached me when I was younger.

Are you looking to play a sport in college?

I'd definitely like to play club hockey or club lacrosse in college if I don't end up playing on one of the actual teams.

What's next?

I have lacrosse coming up in the spring and we're hoping to have a big season. We contend for the state championship every year and we're hoping to go pretty far this year.
