Work Underway on Salem's Town Pump Fountain

Work on the downtown Salem fountain is expected to last through the end of June.

Work to rehabilitate the Town Pump Fountain at the corner of the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and Washington Street is underway.

The city’s contractor, R. Bates and Sons, intends to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30a.m. and 4:30p.m. The project should last about six weeks.

The Pedestrian Mall will be kept open for pedestrian access and deliveries throughout the period of construction; however, there may be periods of time when vehicular access for deliveries will be restricted at the Essex and Washington Streets Intersection.

Information on the project can be found at the following link:http://www.salem.com/Pages/SalemMA_PedMall/index.  The link “Phase two plans” toward the bottom of the page contains construction drawings for the fountain.

If you have any questions with respect to the work being performed, or if you experience any issues that require the attention of the City, please contact Andrew Shapiro in the Department of Planning and Community Development at 978-619-5685 or ashapiro@salem.com.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
