Who Do You Think Should Run for Kerry’s Seat?

After President Obama’s selection of John Kerry as Secretary of State, there’s a lot of interest in the senior senator’s seat.

With U.S. Senator John Kerry as President Barack Obama’s pick for Secretary of State, it’s anyone’s guess who will run for the seat in a special election next summer. Kerry was nominated by Obama on Dec. 21.

If Kerry is appointed, Governor Deval Patrick will appoint an interim senator, who will be named to the position before the special election.

Names have already been dropped locally and from afar. Names include actor and Cambridge native Ben Affleck, but he has already said he's not interested in running for the seat Kerry has held since 1985.

Earlier in December, U.S. Representative Edward Markey told reporters at Malden City Hall, he would “seriously consider” running for Kerry’s seat in the U.S. Senate. On Thursday, he made it official, announcing he would make a run for it. Markey is the first prominent candidate to officially announce his interest in Kerry’s seat.

The Boston Globe reported Thursday that both Democratic Congressmen Michael Capuano of Somerville and Stephen Lynch of South Boston have expressed interest in running, but neither have made any decisions or announcements yet.

There is also speculation that outgoing Senator Scott Brown will run on the Republican side.

Only time will tell who will be throwing their hat in the ring.

So, you tell us. Who do you think should run for John Kerry’s seat? Tell us in our comments section below.

Warren is $400,000 in debt,- she will fit right in with the Washington crowd.

She can borrow some of that off shore gambling money, spread it around ? Hey, she is eligible to open a Casino ?

It will not matter. Let the left go further into insanity. America is already lost.
Chriss Markey January 02, 2013 at 05:24 AM
The Kennedy Kountry of obomiNation is rapidly growing with takers outnumbering makers. ameriKa is upon us. We won't bother voting anymore.
DEBBIE January 02, 2013 at 04:46 PM
I did not vote for her but in all fairness, let's give her a chance and see just how non-partisan she will be. If she flunks out in that department, then we will have a reason to blast her. If not, then we come out okay. Be patient. I think that many people need to read Scott Brown's record and see how he truly was voting on our behalf when he believed it would be the right thing to do. When he voted in favor of the Democrats, the Republicans would frown and refer to him as a person favoring "the other party", On the other hand, if Scott Brown voted in favor of the Republicans, the Democrats start in with their "pissing and moaning". You just can't win. How sad it is to see the greatest country in the world divided. It reminds me of the once horrible Berlin Wall.

Oh, and don't forget how Liveshot Kerry had the fire hydrant moved in front of another historical home in Louisburg Square on Beacon Hill. He did not think it fit into his decor. Pitifully, it was moved. The neighbors were not happy with this freeloader. Along comes John the carpetbagger and changes things that were there forever. Funny isn't it how he married two women and both have plenty of money.

Hey Johnny D, if you could take 40 more years of Obama, you will be one of a few. By then, there will no longer be a United States of America. He is the only person who has ever held office in the White House that has brought us too close to Communism. The sly little fox waited until two days after he got re-elected to announce to the world he will offer a "welcome package" to illegals. Isn't that nice. They will receive free housing, food, clothing, FREE COLLEGE, and all kinds of amenities. It isn't coming out of his pocket, he is stealing it from us. Remember us. We are the people who have worked for many years, one job, two, maybe even three to stay afloat and WE put OUR MONEY into the retirement pot so that we could enjoy the benefits of our hard earned labor in our golden years. How pitiful is this. The money is gone and Obama has put us in more debt than all the other presidents combined, and he has done NOTHING for America; only the illegals. I would of loved to have had a free college education as so wouldn't most people. Oh, even better a free house too. No mortgage, no school loans, aahhh what a life that would of been. Only Obama would condone the word "illegal".

When Mass Dems get their voters to the polls they usually win that's true. The Tea Baggers who abound in here should try doing the same this next go around. And stop whining about "machines"! Get off these blogs and talk to folks who don't already agree with you. its not as much fun as preaching to the choir here on the patch but you will need to convince a hundred thousand voters or so that they made a mistake voting for the Dem candidate last time. Won't be easy to do especially if Beefcake Brownie runs again which we all expect he will do. Only chance he has is to hope for a much lower turnout in summer 2013 than in Nov. 2012. Doesn't quite jibe with his "he's for us " slogan though does it....Shouldn't it be "He's for some of us and the fewer the better!"
Reginald January 02, 2013 at 06:00 PM
Jeesh, for a Parson that guy has a filthy mouth. Wouldn't want to be in his congregation. Calls you a scrotum sucking homosexual because you are fiscally conservative. Ever try to talk to someone like this? I have. In fact I prefer to talk to people who don't already agree with me, but they clam up as soon as they realize you know what you are talking about. Ever been to a Tea Party rally? A lot of well educated people, armed with facts, being passionate about good government, without any yelling and name calling like you get from the foul-mouthed Parson.
Saber Walsh January 02, 2013 at 07:08 PM
Reginald, I think that the "parson" here is using a nom de plume -- Parson Weems is a bit character out of "Assassins Creed 3."
Saber Walsh January 02, 2013 at 07:12 PM
Actually he was so far left he wasn't anywhere near a Republican, and would even suggest that his points-of-view made him left of centrist. He jumped on so many DNC bandwagon issues that it was hard to figure out which party he was a part of. I guess that's why I never liked his politics, but only because I disagreed with him on many issues -- but respected him because he never lied about his views or who he was.
Saber Walsh January 02, 2013 at 07:14 PM
I laughed SO HARD when I read this! Can't top that one...
Saber Walsh January 02, 2013 at 07:18 PM
I served this country and took an oath that, if the need arised, I would give my life for it. There are days that it feels like all is lost, but there are a heck of a lot of people who are sick of the infighting and the "White House sponsored bar fights" that I think we are soon going to see "fighting burnout" and people will want to come to more consensus on things. Right now there are folks on both curbs yelling across the street at each other, and every time something big happens, there's another issue to cause us to shout (the Fiscal Cliff shouting will become Gun Control, not sure what's next, but it will surely drown out the screams of people who are looking at their paystubs and realizing that Obamacare wasn't free!)
Reginald January 02, 2013 at 08:03 PM
Ahhh, thank you. I'm not up on my video game parlance ever since Pac Man kicked my ass in the seventies. At least we now know how our anonymous blogger spends his time. Maybe a little more DrudgeReport and a little less PlayStation III and we can get him educated to the point of conversing in a civil manner.
Stephen Raymond January 03, 2013 at 03:35 PM
Anyone who has previous experience in WEashington should automatically be disqualified. If they have been there, then they have a hand in the mess this country is in right now (not to mention the future). This is one job application where "experience" should count against you.
John Merrett January 03, 2013 at 03:49 PM
People need to think more We and less Me. Both the Democrats and Republicans are destroying this country. The Dem. party in Mass. are choosing who will be Senator, the election is just a formality. It will be business as usual.
John Merrett January 03, 2013 at 04:32 PM
Politicians are so sleazy,...Al Gore, Mr. Global Warming, sells his TV network Current tv, to who?,....Big middle east oil and gas - Al Jazeera,--- pure hypocrisy.
Saber Walsh January 03, 2013 at 05:43 PM
This day really has to be coming. I'm at the point when, when somebody brings up the latest stupid media talking point about "gun control" or "those bad republicans and the Fiscal Cliff," I bring up the Patriots and we suddenly have a much different conversation. Yelling and blogging does not change anybodies minds, but hopefully it will give alternative points of view that are helpful for either side. Just don't, DON'T, bring up the Red Sox.... ahhhhh!
Sean Ward January 04, 2013 at 12:33 AM
I'm sorry Parson, most republicans are too busy working on Tuesdays to vote.
Joe January 04, 2013 at 06:53 PM
I think the Dems in the state might as well drive home the exclamation point on the fact no other party here matters. It matters not who they run, the moronic D populace will vote for the D candidate under ANY circumstance. Therefore, to drive that point home, I suggest the Dems run Michelle Kosilek for the spot. (S)he will beat any R or I candidate simply because there is a D next to its name on the ballot. The Dem base in the state can rally behind Michelle by touting that "transgendered murderers do not have a voice in Washington and we ARE PROUD to send the 1st transgendered murdered to DC". It's really not much more absurd than Liz Warren being elected by the sheep of this state so why not? The electorate in Mass has already made a mockery out of selecting the best candidate in a race (see: Warren, Tierney, Patrick, et al) so why not take it to the next level?

Barney Frank is about to toss his tiara into the ring-----and in this state, he gunna win
Sean Ward January 04, 2013 at 10:58 PM
Oh nice, the guy that single handedly destroyed the US economy in 2008.
DEBBIE January 04, 2013 at 11:18 PM
By the way Saber, THANK YOU for your service. Veterans are number one. I love all you true AMERICAN PATRIOTS and I certainly enjoy every thing you do for us. Bless you.
DEBBIE January 04, 2013 at 11:28 PM
PERFECT. With Obama and his cronies giving away OUR HARD EARNED MONEY to anyone and everyone who is NOT an American citizen, he'll probably have us in receivership or something in the next couple of years. I am from a military family and everyone has fought for THIS COUNTRY and OUR PEOPLE. They must be rolling over in their graves seeing what the thieves in Washington DC have done to OUR RETIREMENT MONEY and placing us as a minority. Also, this money should be for veterans, elderly, children, the homeless. Only we could have a person in the White House that LOVES and PROMOTES the word illegal. He loves supporting millions of anchor babies with OUR MONEY. Nothing against immigrants, but LEARN THE LANGUAGE, GET A JOB, COME HERE LEGALLY, PLAN ON SUPPORTING YOUR OWN KIDS, AND REFUSE THEM WELFARE AND ALL THE OTHER FREEBIES UNTIL THEY HAVE EARNED IT. Our grandparents were all immigrants but they were PROUD PEOPLE and did everything right. Now we have a leader that is going backward. What planet is he from?
DEBBIE January 04, 2013 at 11:29 PM
Whew, all for the love of money. Greed is evil.
DEBBIE January 04, 2013 at 11:34 PM
ROTFLMFAO I LOVE IT. I couldn't have said it better. If some nutty judge declares that we are paying for this FREAKS transgender process, then the judge needs to be taken off the bench, immediately, if not sooner. Stick him in the back of a caged van and get him evaluated ASAP.
DEBBIE January 04, 2013 at 11:35 PM
HA HA HA...... oh great, just when we thought we got rid of another him. A tiara and a tutu for Barney.
steve forte January 18, 2013 at 07:37 PM

steve forte January 18, 2013 at 07:40 PM
Works for me. I prefer my politics centered.

Blessed are those that can give without remembering, and take without forgetting. One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop. When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door. Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill , the barber again replied, 'I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.' The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you ' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door. Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill , the barber again replied, 'I can not accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The Congressman was very happy and left the shop. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut. BOTH POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!
