PHOTOS: Tierney, Frank Attend Salem PRIDE Kickoff

Large crowd turns out at Victoria Station to celebrate LGBT Pride month.

hosted the Salem PRIDE kickoff Friday night. Congressmen John Tierney and Barney Frank were the featured speakers.

Congressman Tierney released statement on LGBT Pride month last week:

“In June, we recognize LGBT Pride Month and celebrate the many triumphs for the LGBT community. We also recommit ourselves to the work ahead in order to achieve full equality for LGBT Americans. The movement has made significant progress in recent years with the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the passage of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill. I have always fought for marriage equality and am proud to stand with President Obama in his support of gay and lesbian couples. I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign, the Bay State Stonewall Democrats, Congressman Barney Frank, and LGBT leaders across the 6th District.

Looking ahead, I am committed to repealing the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). With a Democratic majority in Congress, I am confident we can continue this march towards equality and I look forward to celebrating Pride Month with my many friends in the LGBT community.”
