City Declares Emergency Parking Ban in Salem

City officials have declared an emergency parking ban, starting tonight. No on-street parking will be allowed until further notice.

The city has called for an emergency parking ban in light of the snow storm heading into the region tonight.

An alert posted to the city's website says the ban starts at 10 p.m. and on-street parking will be prohibited for the duration of the ban, which will be in effect until further notice.

"Vehicles must be totally removed from city streets and sidewalks or your vehicle will be ticketed and towed," reads the notice.

Vehicles must also be immediately moved from public and private parking lots once the parking ban is lifted.

The notice also points out that the Department of Public Services will clear alternative parking areas, such as parks, once plowing operations on city streets are finished.

More information and and a list of available municipal parking lots can be found on the city's website. You can also call the Police Department at 978-744-0171 ext. 166.

I agree the bans are going a little over board about a little snow. What I dont get here Hugh is why St Joseph's being torn down anything to do with the Mayor? Isnt that property owned by the Catholic Church?

Does anyone know if you can still park in a parking space that isn't on the street. For example, the lot on front street that is across from front st cafe. Can you park there during the ban and move when lifted?

Park absolutely anywhere you'd like. I live on a resident only street and no tickets are ever given, let alone towing. The same cars park night after night, making me wonder why I pay for a sticker. Last snow storm I called the non-emergency number to report cars on the street and was yelled at by the dispatcher. If I were given a permit to ticket in my neighborhood I could raise $20k in revenue a year for this city, and park when I got home from work.

this parking ban is for the tow truck car thieves to steal your car and charge you 130.00 dollars to get it back
