Woman Tells Police It Felt Like Ghost Was Driving

Saturday, Feb. 25

1:03 a.m. — A caller told police a man was chasing a woman on the Salem-Beverly Bridge.

1:07 a.m. — Police arrested after police said she crashed into a telephone pole on Fort Avenue. Police said the pole was sheared off at the bottom and broken halfway up. Police said Thompson told them "I felt like a ghost was driving the truck. It was going left and right." Police said the woman failed three field sobriety tests.

1:38 a.m. — was arrested on Fort Avenue after police said they were told he had been trying to help his friend who hit the pole.

1:47 a.m. — Police said a loud group was reported on Mason Street. Officers said they found two people inside an apartment with the television on. The resident was advised of the noise complaint and was told to lower the volume.

2:05 a.m. — A house party was reported on West Avenue. Police saw five people leave a house, but there were no residents or noise to report, police said.

2:26 a.m. — A caller told police a group was pulling up signs at Lafayette Street and Willow Avenue, but police were not able to locate anyone.

2:38 a.m. — Police said a man was taken into protective custody on Loring Avenue. Police said the man told the officer he was trying to get back to his dorm, but police said he was struggling and he was highly intoxicated.

2:53 a.m. — A man following a clerk at the on Washington Street was reported. Police said when they arrived, the clerk told then she was putting trash into the Dumpster and noticed a man stumbling around the parking lot. Police spoke with the man who said he was trying to get in touch with someone to take him home. Police said the man was intoxicated and he was placed into protective custody.

2:54 a.m. — A fight in the street was reported at Palmer and Prince streets. Police said they there were not able to locate the fight.

3:43 a.m. — Police responded to the emergency room at on a report a patient was refusing to leave and being aggressive. Police said the person was escorted off hospital property without incident.

4:27 a.m. — A woman asking for help was reported on Union Street.

8 a.m. — A possible fight in the bathroom was reported at . Police said there were not able to find a disturbance.

8:24 a.m. — Banging from upstairs tenants was reported on Boston Street. Police said the caller reported children were stomping around making noise.

8:46 a.m. — Police received a call about suspicious calls. A woman told police a call came in at 8:12 a.m. and she heard a television in the background. Then, she said another call came in a minute later and a "whispery" voice may have said "rape" and "dead," but the woman wasn't completely sure.

9:34 a.m. — A street sign knocked over by the wind was reported on Congress Street.

10:23 a.m. — A Cypress Street caller reported a man was walking dogs in a high voltage area. Police said they were not able to locate the man.

12:25 p.m. — Rental fraud was reported on West Avenue. The caller said someone put his address up on Craigslist in an advertisement for a rental. The man said the property has never been for rent, but it is empty and up for sale through his company. The man said he has received several calls inquiring about renting the apartment.

12:55 p.m. — A wire down was reported on Essex Street.

1:08 p.m. — Police said a person in the middle of the road in an electric wheelchair was reported on Canal Street. Police were not able to locate anyone.

2:17 p.m. — A man possibly using an invalid credit card was reported at the on Highland Avenue. Police said the clerk told them a man presented a credit card and the card was in a woman's name. Police said the card was run through and came up as "invalid and to call the Discover card hotline." Police said the clerk kept the card and the vehicle drove off. While the officer was taking the report, police said the man returned wanting the card back. Police said the man was identified and he was using his mother's credit card. Police spoke with the mother and she said her son was authorized to use the card. The woman was advised to call Discover to rectify the problem.

2:18 p.m. — Wires down in the roadway were reported on Cedar Street.

2:50 p.m. — A locket with two pictures in it was found in Klop Alley.

3:10 p.m. — Wires down/a fire in a tree was reported on Cedarcrest Avenue.

4:05 p.m. — Police received a call people were putting trash in front of a neighbor's home on Bridge Street. A man told police his neighbor placed several items of trash in front of his home. Police said the neighbor refused to move the items until the man said he was calling the police. Police said the woman put several items out, including a couch, that were blocking the sidewalk. The woman was informed she could not leave the trash out until Tuesday.

4:29 p.m. — Possible harassment via Facebook was reported on Cabot Street.

4:54 p.m.  — A found dog was reported on Leavitt Street. Police said a man dropped off a male shitzu at the station. Police said the owner was notified and the dog was picked up.

5:10 p.m. — A suspicious person possibly with a handgun was reported on North Street. Police responded to . The caller reported the man possibly with the handgun was accompanied by two men, police said. When they arrived, police said only one customer was in the store and did not meet the description of the man. An officer was also dispatched to the 7 Eleven on Norman Street and nobody fitting the description was there either. After speaking with both clerks, police said there was not a problem in either store.

5:27 p.m. — Police received a call four people ate without paying the bill at . Police said the bill was $34.51. Police were not able to identify the suspects.

7:22 p.m. — An undesirable guitarist was reported on New Derby Street. Police said the person was in front of and left the area without incident.

7:36 p.m. — A shoplifter was reported at . Police said the security manager said two women left the store with a Keurig Coffee maker worth $119. Police said they are investigating the incident.

8:21 p.m. — Police said a disturbance was reported on Linden Street. The call was cancelled, police said, when the homeowner learned that the people on the second floor were doing some theatre skits and there were no problems.

10:29 p.m. — Larceny from a vehicle in the parking garage was reported on Congress Street.

Sunday, Feb. 26

12:26 a.m. — Another break-in in the parking garage was reported Congress Street.

12:28 a.m. — A loud party was reported on Loring Avenue. Police said the party was ended for the night.

12:28 a.m. — Another loud party was reported, this time on Palmer Street. Police said loud music could be heard from the street. The person was having a wedding reception and was advised to lower the music, police said.

12:45 a.m. — An intoxicated female was reported on Bridge Street. Police were not able to locate her.

2:05 a.m. — Police said a loud party was reported on Palmer Street. All guests at the party left without incident, police said.

2:07 a.m. — A barking dog was reported on Mason Street. Police said when they arrived there was no dog barking.

3:18 a.m. — A loud party was reported on Palmer Street. The party was ended for the night, police said.

4:39 a.m. — An unruly woman was reported on Herbert Street.

11:51 a.m. — A hypodermic needle was found on Jefferson Avenue. Police said the needle was retrieved.

1:51 p.m. — An undesirable was reported at . Police said the call was cancelled before they arrived.

1:54 p.m. — Police arrested at after police said she left the store with 14 items valued at $479.90 without paying.

2:07 p.m. — Two men beating each other were reported on Palmer Street. Police said the men were gone when they arrived.

2:16 p.m. — A person locked in an ATM was reported on Paradise Road. When they arrived, police said nobody was locked in the ATM.

2:17 p.m. — An intoxicated man was reported at Lifebridge. Police said the man was taken into protective custody.

2:28 p.m. — Another intoxicated person was reported, this time on New Derby Street. Police said the person was transported.

3:02 p.m. — A dispute over a tow was reported on Lafayette Street.
