Veterans Memorial Vandalized

The responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday, May 27

6:08 p.m. — A past assault was reported on Washington Street. Police said a man told them he was nearly hit by a vehicle. He said the operator yelled expletives at him and may have waved a bat at him as well. The man was not able to provide a license plate, and the driver left the area before police arrived.

6:17 p.m. — Threats were reported on Lafayette Street.

7 p.m. — A possibly intoxicated man pushing a baby carriage was reported at Washington and New Derby streets. Police were not able to locate the man.

7:21 p.m. — Police said a dirt bike in the street and kids on a megaphone was reported on Ocean Avenue. Police said they were not able to locate anyone outside.

7:48 p.m. — Harassing text messages were reported on Loring Avenue. Police said a woman told them she had been receiving texts from New Mexico.

8:30 p.m. — Kids shooting BB guns were reported at High Street Playground. Police said a boy had a plastic toy rifle, and he was advised to take it in the house and not to take it outside. Police also spoke with his mother.

9:10 p.m. — Police received a call a group walked out on their bill at . The manager said a group of girls in their 20s "were causing a scene after being 'shut off.'" The manager said they got up from the table and started calling the waitresses derogatory names. They were asked to stop and pay their $80.79 bill, but they continued out the door and left in a car. The manager was able to provide a license plate, but police were not able to locate the vehicle. Police were able to get a name of a woman from Waltham, based on plate and registration. The Waltham Police Department said they would make an attempt to contact the woman, Salem Police said.

9:17 p.m. — A man laid out in the gazebo on the hill near was reported. Police said the man was intoxicated and sleeping on the ground. He was placed into protective custody.

9:32 p.m. — A group hiding behind cars was reported on Nichols Street.

9:42 p.m. — A neighbor being harassed was reported on Barstow Street. Police spoke with a woman who said her first floor neighbor "watches everything she does" and that at night, when she came home, the neighbor looked out her kitchen window and gave her the finger.

10:42 p.m. — Police said a woman came into the station to report she was threatened at the . The woman said she went into the restaurant to get a glass of wine and was told by the bartender she wasn't going to be served. While walking away from the Shanty, the woman said she was threatened. Police asked the woman how she was threatened, and she said the bartender told her she was going to call the police and have her arrested if she didn't leave the area. Police went to the restaurant to speak with the bartender. The bartender told the officer she didn't feel comfortable serving the woman alcohol after speaking with her for a few minutes. When the woman realized she wasn't going to be served, the bartender told police the woman raised her voice and started swearing out loud in front of other customers. The bartender told police "the woman was asked to leave more then once and was told if she didn't leave then the police would be called."

Sunday Arrest

David James Casey, 51, of 5 1/2 Leach St. was arrested on two counts of domestic assault and battery and one of intimidation of a witness.

Monday, May 28

12:09 a.m. — A woman told police she was assaulted at Washington and Ropes streets.

12:32 a.m. — A vehicle with a shattered window was reported on Holyoke Square.

12:35 a.m. — A vehicle with a broken window was reported on Summer Street.

1:07 a.m. — While on patrol, officers saw people sitting at the bar with open bottles of beer in front of them at . A woman sitting at a table also had a bottle of beer. Police told the manager a report would be filed with licensing.

3 a.m. — A man and woman arguing was reported on West Avenue.

8:13 a.m. — Loud noise over a speaker was reported at . A woman said the music was loud during her class. She was advised to lower the volume when the windows are open, police said.

8:14 a.m. — A break-in to a trailer was reported on North Street.

8:46 a.m. — A man told police the hood of his car was spray-painted overnight while it was on Washington Street.

12:56 p.m. — Harassment was reported on Roslyn Street.

1:05 p.m. — A vandalized memorial was reported at Broad Street and Dalton Parkway. Police said the veterans memorial had been vandalized with the words "No More War," which were spray-painted in orange paint. Police said there are no suspects at this time, and the reporting party said he would wash off the paint.

1:17 p.m. — Police said a dead seal on the beach was reported at . The Aquarium was notified, police said.

4:13 p.m. — People throwing items at the white arch on were reported. Police were not able to locate them.

4:20 p.m. — A suspicious person climbing through a second floor window was reported on Saunders Street. Police said there was not a problem.

Monday Arrests

Leslie Thomas Ferreira, 29, of 520 Main St. in Malden was arrested on a warrant.

Michael Darren Lockard, 25, of 79 Grove St. was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery, intimidation of a witness and attempted murder.

Angelo Martignetti Jr., 34, of 110 Lowell St. in Peabody was arrested on charges of a marked lanes violation, operation of a vehicle under the influence of drugs and illegal possession of a class C substance.

Orlando R. Perez, 46, of 12 First St. was arrested on two counts of domestic assault and battery and one of assault and battery by a dangerous weapon.
