Vehicle Strikes Tree on Highland Avenue

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Wednesday, Dec. 12:

• At 4:20 p.m., police responded to a report of smoke coming from the Village Tavern loading dock. Responding officers determined that there was no fire.
• At 4:22 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious customer at Maria's Sweet Somethings on Front Street.
• At 4:51 p.m., police responded to a reported fight in the street on Olde Village Drive.
• At 5:05 p.m., a resident entered the police station to report that her son was passing false checks. An arrest warrant will be sought for Lee Gonzalez charging him with four counts of forgery, four counts of uttering a false check and one count of larceny by single scheme.
• At 5:13 p.m., police noticed suspicious activity in the Walgreens parking lot on New Derby Street. Julio C. Vittini, 45, of 5 Tinity St., Lynn, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
• At 5:16 p.m., a man called police to report that he sent someone $550 for motorcycle rims on Craigslist and they never got back to him.
• At 6:05 p.m., a woman called police to report that her car was burglarized while parked in front of Salem Fitness on Swampscott Road. The woman said someone smashed the passenger window and stole a black leather wallet.
• At 6:30 p.m., a Porcello Lane woman called police to report that her purse was stolen from her car while it was parked and unlocked outside of It's Raining Pets on Bridge Street.
• At 7:29 p.m., police responded to a past assault at North Shore Medical Center. Brittany Temkin will be summonsed to court on a charge of assault and battery.
• At 7:30 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Canal Street and Loring Avenue involving a Salem State University police cruiser.
• At 9:12 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic dispute on North Street.
• At 10:38 p.m., police responded to a report of two dogs near Lee Fort Terrace described as "thin German Shepards" that may have been coyotes. Police were unable to locate the animals. 

Thursday, Dec. 13:

• At 2:34 a.m., a motorist was stopped at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Valley Street for going 67mph in a 35 mph zone. Cristina M. Colon, 23, of 52 Dow St., Salem was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
• At 6:55 a.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Pope Street involving a trash truck.
• At 8:25 a.m., police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue. A motorist reportedly went off the road, through some bushes and into a tree.
• At 9:57 a.m., a wallet discovered at Salem Common was dropped off at the police station. The wallet was later returned to its owner.
• At 10:11 a.m., a resident called police to report that someone called him to inform him that he won $2.5 million in the Mega Box Millions Lottery. The man was informed that it was a scamming attempt.
• At 11:03 a.m., police responded to a report of a person checking motor vehicle doors on Church Street. Police were unable to locate anyone in the area.
• At 11:10 a.m., police responded to a report of a drunk woman walking down Boston Street.
• At 11:35 a.m., a man called police to report that his work truck was burglarized while parked behind Planet Fitness. The man said his driver's side window was smashed out with a rock and a GPS and $40 were stolen. Surveillance footage showed a man in dark clothing enter the vehicle.
• At 12:03 p.m., a Carol Way man called police to report that someone called him to inform him that he won $2.5 million. The man was informed that it was a scamming attempt.
• At 12:49 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman walking in the street near the intersection of Essex and North Pine streets.
• At 2:46 p.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle leaking fluid on Prescott Street.
