Threats Reported at Northeast Animal Shelter

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, Sept. 24

4:02 p.m. — Larceny of medication was reported on Heritage Drive.

4:29 p.m. — Threats were reported at Northeast Animal Shelter. Police said an employee reported there is an issue with a dog from Lynn at the shelter. Police said the shelter was unable to release the dog to a woman since it is their policy to release animals to the rightful owners if the proper license and vaccinations are confirmed. A man called the shelter and allegedly swore at the employee and said "I'll show you." Police spoke to the woman who wanted to retrieve the dog and she said she was just trying to help her daughter and son-in-law. Police said the dog is being released to Lynn Animal Control.

4:35 p.m. — An assault was reported on Salem Street. Police said there was a foot chase and a suspect Luigi Fernandez was arrested.

4:54 p.m. — Threats were reported on Loring Avenue. Police said a woman reported a certain child is "always mean to other kids, including her daughter." The woman reported she has tried to speak to the mother of the child with no progress. The woman was advised not to have her daughter hang around with the other seven-year-old.

5:30 p.m. — Larceny of money and rings were reported on Walter Street.

8:29 p.m. —  A man causing a disturbance was reported at Charter and Central streets. Police said a woman said an aggressive panhandler was harassing her and yelled at her in a profane manner after she declined to give him money. Police made contact with the man. Police said he was intoxicated and taken into protective custody.

8:40 p.m. — Police received a call a shoplifter stole a beer on Lafayette Street.

8:55 p.m. — A possible fight was reported on Rainbow Terrace.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

10:35 p.m. — Police said undesirables were reported on the harbor walk.

12:11 p.m. — A wallet was found on North Street.

1:11 p.m. — Police said a shoplifter was reported at the CVS on Essex Street.

3:07 p.m. — Police received a call kids were throwing rocks at geese at the Plummer Home. Police said the animal control officer also responded, and the youths were warned of the consequences if a goose had been injured. Police said the birds left on their own.

3:33 p.m. — A broken down bus was reported on Willson Street.

Tuesday Arrests

Leann Marie Daniels, 24, of 5 Libby Ct. in Lynn was arrested on a warrant.

Leslie Thomas Ferreira, 30, of 105 Broadway in Salem was arrested on a warrant.

Victoria Lee Verbanas, 28, of 48 Pleasant St. in Beverly was arrested on two warrants and a charge of shoplifting by concealing merchandise.
