Suspicious Vehicle Occupant Gambles at Shaw's

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Saturday, Oct. 20

12:31 a.m. — Police received a call a man wouldn't wake up at a table at Rockafellas. Officers shook the man several times to wake him up, and the man told police he had called a taxi but was not able to explain why he was sleeping at the bar. Police said the man was highly intoxicated and taken into protective custody. Though he questioned why he was being detained, police said he did not resist beyond that.

1:31 a.m. — Police received several calls for a Federal Street house party.

1:53 a.m. — A man and woman arguing were reported on Cherry Street.

2 a.m. — A fight in the street was reported on North Street. Police said a man told them he had been talking loudly, but there was no fight.

4:46 a.m. — A suspicious vehicle was reported behind Shaw's. Police said due to the time of day the officer made contact with the operator. The man told the officer he "got off work at 3 a.m. and was playing online poker on his phone there because his girlfriend would not be pleased." Police said the man was sent on his way "after being advised to avoid being behind buildings late at night."

8:59 a.m. — Police said a past incident with a cyclist was reported on Lafayette Street.

12:24 p.m. — A stolen scooter was reported on Boston Street.

1:24 p.m. — Police said a man reported he was driving when his vehicle was hit by a charter bus.

2:04 p.m. — An assault was reported on Howard Street.

2:20 p.m. — Lost/possibly stolen rings were reported on Ocean Avenue.

3:35 p.m. — Police said the MBTA reported someone was on the tracks at Jefferson and Cleavland streets, but police said they weren't able to locate anyone.

4:16 p.m. — A dispute with neighbors was reported on Carol Way.

5:02 p.m. — An assault with a shovel was reported on Thorndike Street.

5:17 p.m. — Police said a man reported he was punched in the left eye by an unknown man at Lafayette and Harbor streets.

5:56 p.m. — A man asking people to kick him was reported on Essex Street.

6:33 p.m. — A fight out front was reported on Derby Street.

7:42 p.m. — An employee being harassed by an intoxicated man was reported on Essex Street.

9:14 p.m. — Police said a fight was reported on Derby Street. A man told officers "someone was giving him a hard time because he was wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers shirt." Police said the man told them he exchanged words with the other person. A small pocket knife was found on the man was put into safe keeping.

11:27 p.m. — Police said a man was taken into protective custody after he was found in "a drunken slumber on the pavement between two vehicles" on Washington Street.

Sunday, Oct. 21

12:33 a.m. — A possible fight in a backyard was reported on North Street.

1:37 a.m. — Police said a dispute in the store was reported at the 7Eleven on North Street. Police said a person was intoxicated and belligerent. The man was taken into protective custody.

1:41 a.m. — A possible fight in a car on Traders Way was reported.

9:56 a.m. — Traffic backed up from a drive-thru was reported on Canal Street.

3:42 p.m.  — Police received a call a person tried stealing a lawn mower on Valley Street.
