State Police Reconstructing Fatal Salem Accident Tonight

Marlborough Road will be closed to traffic tonight from 9 to 11 p.m.

The Salem Police Department announced Thursday that Marlborough Road from Osborne Hill to Rockdale Avenue will be closed to all traffic tonight from 9 to 11 p.m. to perform an accident reconstruction with the State Police Department.

On Nov. 16, Jonathan Acosta, 21, of Lynn was killed when he was struck by a motor vehicle while walking across Marlborough Road.

Tania Mayorga, 21, of Lynn, was also struck and seriously injured.

Investigators believe both Mayorga and Acosta were hit by the first vehicle. Acosta was reportedly struck by a second vehicle after being thrown into the oncoming lane.

Although two vehicles were towed away from the scene, no charges have been brought against either of the drivers involved and neither alcohol nor speed were believed to have contributed to the accident.

Area residents are encouraged to seek alternative routes around the closure.
