Salem Woman Arrested for Prostitution

responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday, March 6

7:07 p.m. — A man selling steaks was reported on Lafayette Street.

7:14 p.m. — A cell phone that was lost on Margin Street was reported to police.

7:24 p.m. — Police said a no trespass order was issued at . An officer saw the general manager yelling at a man. When the officer spoke with the manager she said the man she was yelling at is part of a group that always panhandles outside the store. The man was served a no trespass order.

7:25 p.m. — Officers conducted a targeted patrol on the same Walgreens due to the increased amount of shoplifting. Police said a person would be summonsed as a result of that patrol.

8:20 p.m. — A past attempted break-in to a home was reported on Clark Street. A man told police last Thursday his daughter said she heard someone trying to open the back door to their residence. At the time, police said the daughter thought it was her younger brother, whom she thought was just getting home from school. The man told police someone took the GPS from the Jeep that was parked in the driveway of the home that same day. The son also heard the door to the Jeep slam, but did not see anyone.

8:33 p.m. — Police responded to the on Highland Avenue after multiple alarms went off. The building was secured, but there was evidence of a break-in, police said. An undetermined amount of money was stolen from the building.

8:39 p.m. — Vehicles with loud engines spinning tires were reported on North Street. Police did not find any problems.

8:40 p.m.— The Criminal Investigation Division arrested Rita Ann Hogan at 255 Jefferson Ave. (see below) on a prostitution charge following an investigation that began as the result of numerous complaints about suspicious activity. Two other women were there as well as two children. Police said a complaint was filed as a result.

8:58 p.m. — A hypodermic needle was picked up on North Street. Police said the syringe was collected and will be destroyed.

11:05 p.m. — A loud band was reported on Bridge Street. When police arrived, the man said the band was stopping for the evening.

11:07 p.m. — A dispute was reported on Lafayette Street. 

11:20 p.m. — People arguing inside were reported on Margin Street.

Tuesday Arrests

Bruce W. Cooper Jr., 41, of 10 Howard St., was arrested on a warrant.

James M. Fanning, 49, of 5 Sutton Tr., was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness.

Rita Ann Hogan, 47, of 255 Jefferson Ave., was arrested on a charge of prostitution and on a warrant.

Wednesday March 5

12:20 a.m. — Suspicious kids in a North Street parking lot were reported. Police responded to the HMA parking lot and two youths were working on their car, which had broken down. The youths were to told to leave the car and come back in the morning.

1:16 a.m. — A possible leak in an apartment was reported on Loring Avenue. Police said the came and the kitchen sink was running. Nobody was home. A security guard said he would contact maintenance.

5:59 a.m. — A break-in to a vehicle was reported on Pope Street.

6:13 a.m. — A motor vehicle break-in was reported on Franklin Street. A man said his driver's side window had been shattered by a rock. The only thing missing was a controller for a plow.

7:05 a.m. — Undesirables sleeping in the ATM foyer were reported. Police said they were advised not to stay there.

7:30 a.m. — Threats were reported on Palmer Street.

8:57 a.m. — An undesirable was reported at Walgreens. Police said a man was sleeping in the parking lot and he was advised not to stay there.

9:12 p.m. — An undesirable in was reported. a man was sleeping inside, and the manager said he has told the man not to do so several times. Police said a no trespass order was served.

11:01 p.m. — A child being bullied at school was reported on Lafayette Street.

11:12 a.m. — Police received a call about threats by phone at North Shore Medical Center. A woman said she received a call from a man asking if they were accepting any more suboxone patients. When she said they were not, the man began screaming at her and calling her derogatory names. He then called three more times to yell at her, police said.

11:47 a.m. — Police responded to Sgt. James A. Ayube II Memorial Drive and Bridge Street on a report about a possible cat struck. Police said they found a deceased beaver and the was notified.

1:38 p.m. — Past threats were reported at Lifebridge.

2:06 p.m. — An unattended cat was reported on Loring Avenue.

2:16 p.m.— A person being assault was reported on Webb Street. Police said a man was taken into protective custody due to his high level of intoxication.

2:21 p.m. — Police received a call about a large group fighting at Crowdis Street and Cherry Hill Avenue. When police arrived, the fight was over, and there were no issues.

3:13 p.m. — A dispute over a cab fare was reported on Congress Street.

3:32 p.m. — Keys were found on Front Street.

4:11 p.m. — A man with a knife was reported on Lafayette Street.

4:34 p.m. — Police said an out of control man was reported at the shelter.
