Salem Police Lieutenant's Rape Trial Set for June

The Salem News is reporting that a Salem police officer's rape trial is scheduled to begin this summer.

A Salem police officer facing a rape charge stemming from an incident last summer is expected to go on trial in June, the Salem News is reporting.

Lt. Matthew Desmond, 41, was arrested last summer after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her.

On Friday, a Salem Superior Court judge was asked to schedule the trial for June 4, according to this Salem News story.

On June 20, the District Attorney's Office reported in July. The alleged victim was watching the defendant’s children, her own children and the children of a mutual friend as they used the defendant’s pool. 

Desmond is on administrative leave from the Salem Police Department, which also is conducting its own investigation.
