Salem Police Nab Alleged Heroin Dealer on Pope Street

An alleged heroin dealer was arrested by Salem police Thursday evening.


A month-long investigation into possible drug activity in the Boston Street area led to the arrest of an alleged heroin dealer Thursday evening.

At 5:51 p.m., Juan B. Abreu, 42, of 79 Boston St., Salem, was arrested by Salem police on two counts of possessing a class A substance (heroin) with intent to distribute.  

At 5:51 p.m., police arrested Abreu after he allegedly sold heroin to an undercover officer near the Walgreens on Pope Street.

Detectives seized two cell phones and Abreu's motor vehicle during the arrest. 

The investigation was led by Det. Brian St. Pierre under the direction of Capt. Thomas Griffin and Det. Lt. Stephen Bona. Assisting with the investigation were detectives Eric Connolly, Charlene Sano and Daniel Tucker as well as Sgt. David Tucker and officer Dennis Luti. 

Abreu is expected to be arraigned in Salem District Court Friday morning.
