Salem Police Make 10 Weekend Arrests

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Friday, Jan. 11:

• At 4:23 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Essex Street. Carlos D. Lopez, 32, of 41 Ruggles St., Roxbury, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
• At 4:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a "small child on the ice" near the intersection of Tremont and Churchill streets.
• At 7:24 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man in a dumpster on Lafayette Street. Michael E. Petroski, 35, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of trespassing.
• At 7:50 p.m., police received word that a vehicle had been vandalized overnight while parked on Paradise Road. A check and a baseball cap were reported missing.
• At 8:43 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck following a domestic dispute at the intersection of Roslyn and Hazel streets. John Distefano, 25, of 42 Jerad Place Road, North Andover, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car door). Click Here for our full story.
• At 10:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person looking into cars on Canal Street. Responding officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.

Saturday, Jan. 12:

• At 12:27 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Washington and Lafayette streets. Johnnie L. Albert, 57, of 529 Essex St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
• At 1:09 a.m., police responded to a loud party on Canal Street.
• At 1:33 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Norman Street. Cristina M. Colon, 23, of 52 Dow St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
• At 1:43 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Bridge Street. Melissa K. Pierce, 21, of 14 Essex St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
• At 2:48 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle on the grass on Highland Avenue. Alissa J. Narvaez, 19, of 14 Todd St., Swampscott, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, being a minor in possession of alcohol and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
• At 3:51 a.m., police attempted to stop a Dodge pickup at the intersection of Washington and New Derby streets after it "revved its engine" loudly near Murphy's Bar. The driver reportedly refused to stop for police and traveled at a "high rate of speed up the overpass and down on to North Street outbound." The owner of the vehicle, Patrick Gleason, will be summonsed to court on charges of failure to stop for a police officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of failure to signal while turning, two counts of failure to stop for a red traffic light and speeding (70 mph in a 30 mph zone).
• At 4:08 a.m., police responded to a report of a man sleeping in a bed in a residence on Lathrop Street that is still being developed and was not supposed to be occupied yet.
• At 5:47 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious people looking into cars in the parking lot of The Hawthorne Hotel. Responding officers were unable to find anyone suspicious in the area.
• At 9:02 a.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Jefferson Avenue.
• At 3:20 p.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Canal Street.
• At 6:03 p.m., police received word that a vehicle was burglarized in the parking lot of Planet Fitness on Traders Way and a purse was stolen.
• At 6:57 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man sitting in a vehicle on Harbor Street. Charles G. Brown, 52, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of illegally possessing a class A substance (heroin).
• At 7:02 p.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at Market Basket.

Sunday, Jan. 13:

• At 12:02 a.m., police responded to a reported hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Lafayette and Gardner streets. Matthew Lambert will be summonsed to court on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
• At 12:57 a.m., police responded to a report of men throwing construction cones on Charter Street.
• At 2:51 a.m., police responded to a reported domestic assault and battery on Lafayette Street. Adriano Arias, 57, of 61 Lawrence St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and resisting arrest.
• At 3:59 a.m., police responded to a 911 hang-up from a home on Leavitt Street. After a brief foot chase, Julio C. Romero, 30, of 47 Leavitt St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, intimidating a witness, threatening to commit a crime, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two counts of assault and battery.

• At 8:31 a.m., a Harbor Street man called police to report that $5,400 cash,  a diamond ring, a gold cross and a bag of medication went missing from his apartment.
• At 2:42 p.m., police responded to a reported vehicle break-in in the parking lot of The Hawthorne Hotel.
