Detail Officer Struck on Canal Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department’s log: 

Sunday, Dec. 8:

  • At 4:06 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 4:16 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident near the Home Depot on Traders Way. Steven N. Cunha, 26, of 36 Proctor St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of illegally possessing a class A substance (heroin), shoplifting merchandise valued above $100, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
  • At  5:40 p.m., police and fire units extinguished a trash can fire near the intersection of Essex Street and Museum Place.
  • At  7:34 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Congress Street.
  • At 11:28 p.m., police responded to a report of a man yelling on Lafayette Street.

Monday, Dec. 9

  • At 2:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a man calling for help on Lafayette Street. A homeless man was taken to the homeless shelter.
  • At 3:46 a.m., police responded to a medical overdose on Margin Street.
  • At 6:39 a.m., police made an arrest on Orchard Street. Jennifer L. McHeffey, 38, of 17 Orchard St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 9:57 a.m., police made an arrest on Federal Street. Anthony Polsonetti, 54, of 32R New Way Lane, Gloucester, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:32 a.m., police made an arrest at Probate Court. Justin B. Clark, 32, of 410 Dubuque St., Manchester, N.H., was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 11:01 a.m., police made an arrest on Margin Street. Terrell D. Moon, 25, of 33 Harrison Road, Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 12:26 p.m., police responded to a dispute on First Street.
  • At 1:04 p.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered on Lafayette Street.
  • At 1:30 p.m., police responded to a report of two people fighting at the East India Square Mall. Vanessa K. Caruso, 21, of 23 State St., Marblehead, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, malicious destruction of property valued above $250, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, possessing a large knife and assault with a dangerous weapon. James R. Thompson, 19, of 23 State St., Marblehead, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property valued above $250, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, possessing a large knife and for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 3:25 p.m., a detail officer from Marblehead was struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Canal and Mill streets. A woman was later pulled over and will be summonsed to court on charges of failure to stop for police and impeded operation.
  • At 4:54 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Washington Street.
