Undercover Drug Sale Nets Alleged Dealer on Lafayette

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:


Tuesday, Jan. 21

  • At 6:20 p.m., police responded to a dispute on North Street.
  • At 6:47 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Traders Way.
  • At 7:52 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Lafayette Street.
  • At 8:13 p.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered at the shelter on Margin Street.
  • At 9:11 p.m., police made an arrest on Lafayette Street. Aja T. Klafner, 29, of 116 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 9:12 p.m., police made an arrest on Lafayette Street following an undercover sale. Bernice Conklin, 44, of 116 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a class A substance and possessing a class B substance with intent to distribute.
  • At 9:26 p.m., police responded to a report of stolen motor vehicle on Bridge Street.
  • At 9:55 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Buffum Street.
  • At 10:07 p.m., a no trespass order was issued on Lafayette Street. 

Wednesday, Jan. 22

  • At 12:06 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Bridge and Barton streets. Rachel A. Chittick, 21, of 6 Gallows Hill Road, Salem, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 4:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a man yelling on Clifton Avenue.
  • At 9:07 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Franklin Street.
  • At 10:03 a.m., police made an arrest on Loring Avenue. Marcial J. Larios, 21, of 1000 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 11:33 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Essex Street.
  • At 12:07 p.m., police responded to a report of threats at the Social Security office on Federal Street. 
  • At 12:34 p.m., police responded to a fight between neighbors on Mason Street.
  • At 1:23 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Mason Street.
  • At 3:03 p.m., police responded to a report of an attempted fraud on Sunset Road.
