Alleged Shoplifter Arrested at Salem Market Basket

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Wednesday, July 17

  • At 4:16 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Adams Street.
  • At 5:45 p.m., police checked on a man who was sleeping near the intersection of Bridge and North streets.
  • At 6:27 p.m., police responded to a report of a dog bite on Mayflower Lane. A woman told police that her dog was attacked by another dog while she was out walking it. The animal control officer was notified.
  • At 7:38 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at the Congress Street Market.
  • At 7:55 p.m., police responded to a report of kids throwing rocks at passing boats on Derby Street.
  • At 8:15 p.m., police responded to a report of a man selling magazines on Lincoln Road.
  • At 8:22 p.m., police responded to a fight at the Market Basket on Highland Avenue. Lee E. Gonzalez, 27, of 60 Dow St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise valued above $100.
  • At 9:00 p.m., police responded to a past dog bite on Barstow Street. A woman told police she was bitten by a pit bull while protecting her smaller dog.
  • At 9:43 p.m., police responded to a report of kids at a construction site on Lafayette Street.
  • At 10:52 p.m., police responded to a report of a loud bang heard in the area of Butler Street. 

Thursday, July 18

  • At 5:34 a.m., a local resident entered the police station to report that their bicycle was stolen from a basement on Salem Street.
  • At 11:40 a.m., police responded to a fight on Front Street. One man was placed into protective custody.
  • At 1:02 p.m., a Parlee Street resident called police to report that 11 solar lawn lights were stolen from her front yard. 
  • At 2:04 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Beaver Street. Jean L. Amirault, 51, of 6 Beaver St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
  • At 2:58 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman "talking to the sky" near the intersection of Essex and Washington streets. 
  • At 3:25 p.m., police responded to a report of a man cutting down trees on Cross Street Court. 
  • At 4:05 p.m., police received word that a person was trying to use a fake prescription on Essex Street.
  • At 4:19 p.m., police responded to a report of solicitors on Savoy Road.
