Motorist Flees School Street Crash

The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.


The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Wednesday, Aug. 28

  • At 5:36 p.m., police responded to a reported dog bite on Hanson Street.
  • At 8:11 p.m., police responded to a report of a loud group at the Broad Street Cemetery.
  • At 8:44 p.m., police received word that a water bubbler at the Palmer Cove Ball Field had been damaged over the last couple of days.
  • At 9:21 p.m., police responded to a reported sinkhole near the intersection of Lafayette Street and Willow Avenue. The DPW was notified.
  • At 10:17 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Highland Avenue. Katie Doherty, 83, of 330 Walnut St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by concealment and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.

Thursday, Aug. 29

  • At 12:42 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman being followed near the Salem Common. 
  • At 1:12 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of School and Dunlap streets. A motorist reportedly drove into a utility pole and fled the scene of the crash on foot.
  • At 2:43 a.m., police located a woman known to have an outstanding warrant on Clifton Avenue. Dora A. Minaya, 33, of 496 Chatham St., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 6:17 a.m., a Skerry Street woman called police to report that someone smashed her car window overnight.
  • At 11:21 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a cyclist on Highland Avenue.
  • At 1:01 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Federal Street.
Other Arrest: 

Melissa R. Pizzaro, 25, of 101 Canal St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
