Police: Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Cyclist in Salem

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Sunday, Sept. 15

  • At 5:12 p.m., police responded to a past break-in at a storage unit on Swampscott Road.
  • At 5:13 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Center Street.
  • At 5:18 p.m., police responded to a fight in the park near the intersection of Lafayette and Harbor streets.
  • At 5:46 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Palmer Street.
  • At 6:55 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured seagull with a hook in its mouth near the intersection of Harbor and Lafayette streets.
  • At 7:32 p.m., police responded to the Market Basket on Highland Avenue after receiving word that a man had just threatened the store manager with what appeared to be a gun. The vehicle was alter stopped in South Hamilton and the man was arrested for having four outstanding warrants. There was no weapon found in the vehicle.
  • At 9:57 p.m., police responded to a domestic assault and battery on West Avenue. Michael R. Connor, 54, of 32 West Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
  • At 11:56 p.m., police responded to a report of a drunk woman walking through a yard on Moulton Avenue. A woman was placed into protective custody.

Monday, Sept. 16

  • At 2:00 a.m., police responded to a reported fight on Pope Street. Carlos E. Paulino, 31, of 12 Pope St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife) and domestic assault and battery.
  • At 5:46 a.m., an Ord Street man called police to report that someone went through his unlocked motor vehicle but didn't steal anything.
  • At 6:54 a.m., Lt. Stephen Bona and Sgt. Kristian Hanson assisted Boston police with arresting Evans P. Timouche, 25, of 37 Fairmount St., Dorchester, was arrested on a charge of home invasion. Click Here for our full story.
  • At 6:56 a.m., police assisted constables out of Beverly with an arrest.
  • At 7:57 a.m., a Crescent Drive resident called police to report two unlocked vehicles were entered overnight.
  • At 8:25 a.m., a man called police to report that an apartment on Boston Street had been burglarized while the tenant was in jail.
  • At 8:28 a.m., a man called police to report that a lock box at a job site on Lafayette Street was broken into over the weekend at several tools were stolen.
  • At 12:39 p.m., police responded to a report of items stolen from storage units on Swampscott Road.
  • At 2:55 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on a bus near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Willson Street.
  • At 5:27 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Porter Street.
  • At 5:28 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman on a roof on Endicott Street. The woman told police she just went out on her roof to see what it was like. She was advised not to go out on the roof.
  • At 5:49 p.m., a man entered the police station to report a stolen rental car.
  • At 7:23 p.m., police responded to a taxi dispute on Szetela Lane.
  • At 7:40 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on South Street.
  • At 8:01 p.m., a man called police to report that his bike was stolen on Essex Street.
  • At 8:50 p.m., a Porter Street woman called police to report that someone stolen her bicycle from her backyard.
  • At 10:14 p.m., police responded to a report of cars racing in a parking lot on Highland Avenue.
Tuesday: Sept. 17

  • At 12:52 a.m., a man called police to report that his bike was stolen on Canal Street.
  • At 8:39 a.m., police responded to a road rage incident near the intersection of Essex and Washington streets.
  • At 9:08 a.m., police responded to a report of an injured cat near the intersection of Bridge and Flint streets. The animal turned out to be a dead skunk and the DPW was notified.
  • At 9:57 a.m., police responded to a past domestic assault and battery on White Street. Tremaine B. Surro, 39, of 10 White St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery. 
  • At 10:17 a.m., hypodermic needs were discovered on Highland Avenue.
  • At 12:03 p.m., police responded to a report of a cyclist struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Norman and Summer streets. The unidentified motorist will be summonsed to court on a charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with personal injury.
  • At 12:23 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Lafayette Street.
  • At 1:22 p.m., police responded to a report of a damaged vending machine on Loring Avenue.
  • At 1:35 p.m., police responded to the Home Depot on Traders Way after receiving word that one of the store's employees was caught stealing money.
  • At 2:56 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Rainbow Terrace.
  • At 3:33 p.m., an Orne Square resident entered the police station to report that someone stole their custom scooter off of their porch.
  • At 4:47 p.m., police responded to a report of a man urinating on a parked motor vehicle near the intersection of Bridge and Carpenter streets.
  • At 5:32 p.m., police responded to a report of a pallet in the roadway near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Freeman Road.
  • At 6:15 p.m., police responded to a dispute over a dog on Loring Avenue.
Other Arrests:

Gregory M. Benyue, 53, of 16 Scenic Ave., Salem, was arrested on 12 counts of violating an abuse prevention order.
