Salem Police Investigating Illegal Dumping on Swampscott Road

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Tuesday, Nov. 19


  • At 6:38 p.m., police responded to a past break-in at a home on Pingree Street.
  • At 6:47 p.m., police responded to a possible chimney fire on Federal Street.
  • At 11:39 p.m., Salem detectives were contacted by the city's Health Inspector David Greenbaum concerning a joint investigation with Department of Environmental Protection Investigator Timothy Dame. The investigation was into illegal dumping at the former McSweeney Autobody at 54 Swampscott Road. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against a suspect. 
  • At 11:15 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Heritage Drive.

Wednesday, Nov. 20

  • At 10:18 a.m., a Bertini Lane woman called police to report that two garden statues were damaged overnight.
  • At 10:26 a.m., a Flint Street man called police to report that he was missing two copper downspouts.
  • At 11:38 a.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered on Dow Street.
  • At 4:01 p.m., police reportedly witnessed a drug transaction in the Walmart parking lot on Highland Avenue. Helene Sychampanaknone, 48, of 80 Essex St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of illegally possessing a class A substance (heroin) and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 4:14 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Hathorne Circle. Jeffrey A. Roub, 50, of 129 Lowell St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of violating an abuse prevention order and two counts of domestic assault.
