Vehicle Vandalized on Salem Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Monday, Aug. 12

  • At 4:14 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on North Street.
  • At 4:19 p.m., a man entered the police station to report that checks made out to his business had been deposited into an unknown bank in Rhode Island.
  • At 5:10 p.m., a man entered the police station to report that someone stole his cell phone from under his pillow while he was sleeping.
  • At 6:24 p.m., police responded to a past larceny at the Walmart on Highland Avenue. A woman told police a Walmart employee recovered her lost purse from a shopping cart and she found that $180 was missing from it. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the parking lot. 
  • At 9:47 p.m., police responded to a report of people smoking marijuana near the Peabody Essex Museum. Two people took off on foot and the remaining person was found to be in possession of marijuana and a pipe. The pipe and marijuana was confiscated and the man was issued a $100 fine for possessing marijuana. 
  • At 10:54 p.m., police responded to a report of the sound of glass breaking near the intersection of Broad and Pickering streets. 
  • At 11:13 p.m., police responded to a report of kids throwing water balloons near the intersection of Salem and Palmer streets.

Tuesday, Aug. 13


  • At 1:52 p.m., police responded to a fight near the intersection of Federal and Flint streets.
  • At 7:31 a.m., a Salem Street woman called police to report that her vehicle was keyed and all of the windows were smashed out overnight.
  • At 8:42 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on First Street.
  • At 12:28 p.m., police responded to a report of a man going in and out of yards near the intersection of Nichols and Varney streets.
  • At 1:14 p.m., a woman entered the police station to report that two money orders she recently lost, valued at $500, had been cashed by a local man under a false name. The man was located on Rainbow Terrace and declined to answer questions about the transactions. The man will be summonsed on a charge of receiving stolen property and larceny over $250.
  • At 3:45 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious behavior on Sargent Street.
  • At 3:56 p.m., police responded to a report of a dead seagull on Memorial Drive.
