Salem Man Arrested on Assault Charge

Tuesday, Feb. 18

  • At 4:10 p.m., police responded to a traffic light issue on Highland Avenue.
  • At 4:44 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Nightingale Lane.
  • At 6:20 p.m., police responded to a reported of harassment on Washington Street.
  • At 6:29 p.m., police responded to a past shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Highland Avenue.
  • At 6:36 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Bridge Street.
  • At 8:25 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident near the intersection of Essex and North streets.
  • At 9:23 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Essex Street.
  • At 9:47 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Howard Street. 

Wednesday, Feb. 19

  • At 12:47 a.m., police responded to a past larceny on Dow Street. Angel A. Avelino, 21, of 56 Dow St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and two counts of larceny over $250. 
  • At 1:39 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Summer Street.
  • At 2:14 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Pope Street.
  • At 2:40 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on Cypress Street.
  • At 6:31 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 7:38 a.m., police responded to a report of a vandalized motor vehicle on Chestnut Street.
  • At 10:25 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Bryant Street.
  • At 10:37 a.m., police responded to a past assault on Washington Street.
  • At 11:27 a.m., police responded to a report of a loose dog near the intersection of North and Commercial streets.
  • At 1:34 p.m., police responded to a medical overdose on Loring Avenue.
  • At 1:43 p.m., police responded to a water main break on Columbus Avenue.
  • At 2:17 p.m., a Washington Street resident called police to report a possible phone scam.
