Grinch Steals Holiday Packages in Salem

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Tuesday, Dec. 24

  • At 1:17 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Derby Street.
  • At 8:04 a.m., police responded to a report of stolen wires on Goodhue Street.
  • At 12:35 p.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Dunlap Street.
  • At 12:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a stolen package on Courageous Court.
  • At 12:47 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Nichols Street.
  • At 1:36 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Hartford Street.
  • At 2:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person on Willson Street.
  • At 3:34 p.m., police responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Highland Avenue. Donna Hartigan, 50, of 175 Central St., Saugus, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by asportation.
  • At 4:28 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Howard Street.
  • At 5:17 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Howard Street.
  • At 6:18 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on May Street.
  • At 6:58 p.m., police responded to a dispute between neighbors on North Street.
  • At 8:28 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Highland Avenue.
  • At 9:39 p.m., police responded to a report of stolen packages on Mason Street. A man told police that he had eight packages containing Christmas presents stolen from his front steps and later received a voicemail from an unknown number during which someone said "thank you for the puzzle." A puzzle was among the items reported stolen. Police are investigating the alleged theft.
  • At 10:32 pm., police responded to a disturbance on Pope Street.
  • At 11:02 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Rainbow Terrace.
  • At 11:43 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Highland Avenue.

Wednesday, Dec. 25

  • At 1:01 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Essex Street.
  • At 10:02 a.m., police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Kernwood Street.
  • At 11:23 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Hillside Avenue.
  • At 11:59 a.m., police responded to a report of stolen package on Buffum Street.
  • At 12:19 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Hillside Avenue.
  • At 1:54 p.m., police responded to a report of a dislodged manhole cover on Amanda Way.
