Salem Police Look for Axe-Wielding Man Wearing Gas Mask

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Tuesday, Oct. 22


  • At 4:04 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on North Street.
  • At 4:04 p.m., a man entered the police station to report that his car was stolen from Canal Street.
  • At 4:16 p.m., police conducted a well-being check near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Market Basket.
  • At 4:21 p.m., police responded to a past break-in on Mason Street.
  • At 4:35 p.m., police responded to a report of people drinking on the beach at Forest River Park. David A. Cook, 50, of 6 Southern Manor, Ipsqich, was arrested on a charge of drinking in public.
  • At 7:45 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Fairview Road.
  • At 8:15 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Salem Street.
  • At 8:50 p.m., police responded to a report of a man wearing a gas mask and carrying an axe on Church Street. Police were unable to locate the man.
  • At 10:56 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Federal Street.
  • At 11:42 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Federal Street. Jessica L. Malone, 31, of 149 Federal St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disturbing the peace and malicious destruction of property valued above $250.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

  • At 9:34 a.m., police responded to a medical overdose on Hanson Street.
  • At 9:52 a.m., a Taft Road resident called police to report that a scarecrow was stolen from her yard.
  • At 10:13 a.m., police made an arrest on Intervale Road. Junior Cardosa, 36, of 1939 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, was arrested for reportedly having four outstanding warrants.
  • At 2:43 p.m., police made an arrest on Loring Avenue. Michelle R. Walsh, 43, of 112 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
  • At 2:47 p.m., police responded to a report of illegal dumping on Franklin Street.
  • At 3:43 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Liberty Hill Avenue.
