Lynde Street Accident Ties Up Salem Traffic

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Thursday, Aug. 29

  • At 4:47 p.m., a syringe was discovered on Washington Square South.
  • At 4:51 p.m., police responded to a report of two men asking for money on Trader's Way.
  • At 5:03 p.m., police responded to a report of a group drinking on Wharf Street. Robert A. Bouffard, 63, of 56 Margin St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of drinking in public. Jason McKenney, 29, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on charges of providing a false name to police and drinking in public.
  • At 5:06 p.m., a Willow Avenue woman called police to report that her bicycle was stolen.
  • At 6:12 p.m.,police responded to a shoplifting incident on Essex Street. Three juveniles were escorted home and their parents were told of the incident.
  • At 6:37 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Clifton Avenue.
  • At 7:19 p.m., police responded to a report of damage to a porch on Palmer Street.
  • At 7:22 p.m., police responded to a medical overdose on Pope Street.
  • At 9:02 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on High Street.
  • At 9:34 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute near the intersection of Orange and Essex streets. 

Friday, Aug. 30

  • At 12:26 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Hancock Street.
  • At 6:56 a.m., police responded to a report of landscapers making noise on Broadway.
  • At 7:21 a.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Orne Street.
  • At 8:14 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries near the intersection of North and Lynde streets. A man reportedly drove over a median and into the side of a tractor trailer that was trailering an excavator. Officers later determined that the operator may have been suffering from a medical condition. Multiple units were needed to clear rush-hour traffic.
  • At 11:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a group in an alley near the intersection of Higginson Square and Essex Street. Jamie L. Trudniak, 49, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of drinking in public. 
  • At 12:26 p.m., a hypodermic needle was found on Mansell Parkway. 
  • At 1:32 p.m., police responded to a report of a drunk man on Derby Street.
  • At 1:59 p.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Aborn Street.
  • At 3:22 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Herbert Street. A man was placed into protective custody.
