Man Calls Police After Finding Drunk Stranger in His Car

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Sunday, April 27

  • At 12:20 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Derby Street.
  • At 1:32 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Hazel Street. Nicholas T. Grassa, 21, of 5 Hazel St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.
  • At 1:41 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Arbella Street.
  • At 2:30 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Ward Street.
  • At 5:05 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Ward Street.
  • At 6:06 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Loring Avenue.
  • At 6:47 a.m., police responded to a brown water complaint on Osborne Hill Drive.
  • At 9:23 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Proctor Street. Heather A. Herdman, 24, of 71 Proctor St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (coffee cup). Holly A. Herdman, 22, of 71 Proctor St., Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon (plastic cup).
  • At 10:13 a.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered near the intersection of Puritan and Witchraft roads.
  • At 11:10 a.m., contraband was reportedly found on Loring Avenue.
  • At 11:29 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on North Street. Dana A. Michaud Jr., 21, of 12 Sprague St., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 12:35 p.m., police responded to a reported theft of a cell phone at Fantasy Island restaurant on Loring Avenue.
  • At 1:13 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Highland Avenue. Jose A. Gonzalez, 19, of 14 Rock Ave., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by concealment.
  • At 4:23 p.m., a man called police to report finding a drunk stranger sitting in the front seat of his car on Canal Street.  Police determined the man was intoxicated and he was placed into protective custody.
  • At 5:28 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Laurel Street.
  • At 5:32 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 6:42 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Boston Street. Michael A. Bain, 42, of 4 Cashman Road, Peabody, was arrested on charges of larceny of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene on an accident with property damage.
  • At 6:47 p.m., police responded to a report of threats on Loring Avenue.
  • At 6:54 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious people with a BB gun on Varney Street
  • At 8:42 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint at the Ward 2 Club on East Collins Street.
  • At 8:48 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Norman Street.
  • At 10:57 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Bridge Street. A witness told police a vehicle struck a traffic island on Bridge Street before hitting the leaving Salem sign and a fire hydrant. The witness said the vehicle then fled the scene down Bridge Street. Both the sign and a fire hydrant were knocked over in the crash.

Monday, April 28

  • At 11:19 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 1:30 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Roslyn Street. Jason M. Dailey, 31, of 27 Cross St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
  • At 3:07 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Summit Street. 
  • At 3:26 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Summit Street.
  • At 3:46 p.m., an employee of the Salem Parking Department entered the police station to report losing a set of brass parking meter keys capable of opening all the meters in the city. 
Arrests

James A. Getchell, 24, of 14 Aborn St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of illegally possessing a class A substance (heroin). 

Jessica M. Valente, 21, of 47 Tracey St., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
