Salem Police Nab Alleged Burglar on Garden Terrace

The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.


The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Friday, Dec. 20

  • At 6:06 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Margin Street.
  • At 6:30 p.m., police conducted a well-being check near the intersection of Canal and Mill streets.
  • At 7:35 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Mason Street.
  • At 9:01 p.m., a man called police to report that his car was stolen on Traders Way. The man told police he was working out at Planet Fitness when he noticed his car was gone. The man said when he checked the locker room for his keys, he realized that his wallet and car keys had been stolen. Police later determined that the credit cards were used to make purchases over $100 at Walmart and Target. An investigation is ongoing.
  • At 9:28 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Loring Avenue.
  • At 9:34 p.m., police responded to a report of a person sleeping inside an ATM near the intersection of Charter and Central streets. Judith L. Carpentier, 35, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of trespassing.

Saturday, Dec. 21

  • At 12:39 a.m., police responded to a report of a man breaking into a home on Garden Terrace. The man reportedly broke into the house by smashing a rear window. Nelson A. Amparo, 31, of 16 Michigan Ave., Boston, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony and malicious destruction of property valued above $250.
  • At 12:45 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Derby Street.
  • At 1:07 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Pope Street.
  • At 2:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a plow pushing snow into the South River Canal on Congress Street.
  • At 3:15 a.m., police responded to a report of a van blocking traffic and honking its horn on Ward Street. Joseph E. Green, 27, of 7 Ward St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and resisting arrest.
  • At 3:54 a.m., police responded to a domestic assault on Ward Street.
  • At 7:07 a.m., a juvenile was arrested on Salem Street.
  • At 8:48 a.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance on Heritage Drive. Jeffrey R. Vincent, 28, of 1 Heritage Drive, Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery on a disabled person.
  • At 9:15 a.m., a woman called police to report that her car was burglarized overnight.
  • At 11:57 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Devereaux Avenue. Patrick B. Hartery, 26, 1 Devereaux Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 2:49 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 4:09 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Target on Highland Avenue.
  • At 6:41 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the TJ Maxx on Traders Way. 
  • At 7:36 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Harbor Street. A juvenile was arrested.
  • At 8:25 p.m., police and fire units responded to a reported fire in a bedroom on First Street.
  • At 10:44 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Lafayette Street.
  • At 2:49 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Geneva Street. 

Sunday, Dec. 22:

  • At  1:58 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Lafayette Street. Natasha A. Betemit, 30, of 41 Elliot St., Beverly, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 2:49 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Geneva Street. Brittany M. Ayers, 19, of 19 Geneva St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
  • At 5:57 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Endicott Street.
  • At 8:59 a.m., police responded to a dispute on Cabot Street.
  • At 10:11 a.m., police responded to a report of turkeys in the road on Highland Avenue.
  • At 10:23 a.m., police made an arrest on Hazel Street. Kristopher Burnham, 24, of 19 Hazel St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 11:43 a.m., police responded to a report of stolen tools on Gardner Street.
  • At 1:10 p.m., police responded to a report of stolen scrap metal on Federal Street.
  • At 1:30 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Flint Street.
  • At 2:28 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Endicott Street.
  • At 3:11 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Walgreens on New Derby street. Maria A. Espaillat, 30, of 15 Harbor St., Salem, was arrested on charges of shoplifting merchandise by concealment and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
