Homeless Man Caught Stealing Ladder from Peabody Essex Museum

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Saturday, July 20


  • At 5:38 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue. A woman told police another motorist struck her vehicle and told her she didn't have time to wait for police because she was on the way to a graduation party and left the area. Faith M. Aparecida Gomes, 52, will be summonsed on charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with property damage and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 7:14 p.m., police responded to a report of a dog struck by a motor vehicle on Leggs Hill Road.
  • At 7:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a "raccoon on the sidewalk doing circles" on Federal Street. The raccoon problem was reportedly addressed.
  • At 8:05 p.m., police responded to a report of stolen medication on Essex Street.
  • At 8:24 p.m., police responded to a report of a drunk man on a bench with a child at the Target on Highland Avenue.
  • At 9:04 p.m., police responded to a report of aggressive panhandling on Essex Street.
  • At 9:41 p.m., police responded to a report of people throwing water balloons on Perkins Street.
  • At 9:50 pm., police responded to a road rage incident at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road.


Sunday, July 21


  • At 12:06 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Proctor and Langdon streets.
  • At 12:11 a.m., police responded to a reported disturbance on Rainbow Terrace. Reynaldo Martinez Jr., 29, of 173 Essex St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 2:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a man sleeping on a bench on Washington Square.
  • At 2:45 a.m., police responded to a fight on Boston Street.
  • At 3:31 a.m., police responded to a large fight on First Street. Two women were placed into protective custody.
  • At 3:57 a.m., police responded to a report of a man stealing a ladder from the Peabody Essex Museum. David R. Lefebre, 45, of the streets of Peabody, was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250.
  • At 4:31 a.m., an Endicott Street man called police to report that his car was egged overnight.
  • At 7:26 a.m., police responded to a report of kids partying at Winter Island Beach. Four youths were placed into protective custody.
  • At 8:55 a.m., a bicycle was discovered on Canal Street.
  • At 10:19 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity at the intersection of Lafayette and Ward streets.
  • At 11:10 a.m., police responded to a report of stolen medication at The Brookhouse on Derby Street.
  • At 12:27 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Weatherly Drive.
  • At 1:33 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Becket Street.
  • At 2:23 p.m., the owner of a North Street business called police to report that a past employee was seen destroying a video camera.
  • At 2:51 p.m., a Green Street man entered the police station to report that someone recently stole his wife's bike.
  • At 2:59 p.m., a man called police to report that someone stole his bicycle outside of Arges Liquors on Boston Street.
  • At 3:01 p.m., police responded to a report of aggressive panhandling on Bridge Street. 
Other arrests:

Eiron R. Pimentel, 31, of 54 Essex St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Walter A. Pimentel, 34, of 11 Dracut St., Dorchester, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.
