Alleged Heroin Dealer Arrested Following Salem Traffic Stop

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Friday, Aug. 9:  

  • At 5:02 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Lafayette and Dow streets. Harold F. Bennett Jr., 51, of 30 Doty Ave., Danvers, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, fourth offense and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
  • At 6:08 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious package on Bridge Street.
  • At 6:48 p.m., police responded to a report of people drinking on Salem Common. Robert C. Eveleth, 52, of 4 Mill St., Peabody, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 7:15 p.m., a woman on Beaver Street called police to report that her teenage daughter told her an older man in a black pickup truck had just pulled over and motioned for her to come over.
  • At 10:22 p.m., police responded to a report of children screaming on Hancock Street.

Saturday, Aug. 10


  • At 12:10 a.m., police stopped a man on Charter Street. Matthew C. Whitcomb, 21, of 31 Salem St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property valued above $250.
  • At 3:32 a.m., police responded to a report of a man kicking over construction barrels near the intersection of Loring Avenue and Leggs Hill Road. Jonathan M. McDonald, 26, of 8 Hardy St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.
  • At 6:36 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman breaking into cars on Barr Street. Michaela L. Yeskis, 17, of the streets of Salem, was arrested two counts of larceny of property valued below $250 and three counts of breaking an entering during the day with intent to commit a felony.
  • At 11:32 a.m., police responded to a report of an aggressive dog on Commercial Street.
  • At 11:38 a.m., police and fire units responded to a report of an object burning near the intersection of Bridge and Osgood streets.
  • At 12:52 p.m., police responded to a report of kids throwing rocks at cars on Pond Street.
  • At 3:27 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Intervale Road. Jairon Gonzalez, 23, of 501 Washington St., Lynn, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, possessing a class A substance (heroin) with intent to distribute and providing a false name to police.
  • At 4:23 p.m., police responded to a report of a man breaking into vehicles near the intersection of Bridge and North streets. Brian Buhamizzo, 31, of Boston, was arrested on four counts of malicious destruction of property valued above $250.
  • At 4:29 p.m., police responded to a fight in the street on Cherry Street. Pedro Colon-Morales, 62, of 5 English St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. Orlando M. Ortiz, 56, of 99 Jackson St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property valued above $250.
  • At 8:16 p.m., police responded to a report of a loud group in a parking lot on Washington Street. Vanessa K. Caruso, 20, of 9 Oliver St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.

Sunday, Aug. 11

  • At 4:49 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Read Street. Chiquana A. Clayton, 20, of 13 Read St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and two counts of malicious destruction of property valued above $250.
  • At 10:35 a.m., two joggers stopped an officer near the intersection of Bridge and Goodhue streets to turn over a bag containing marijuana that they discovered near the intersection of Goodhue and Bridge streets.
  • At 1:25 p.m., a First Street man called police to report that someone slashed his tires overnight.
  • At 1:26 p.m., police responded to a report of a stolen bicycle on Derby Street
  • At 2:37 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman screaming on Highland Avenue.
Other arrest:

Gary D. Woodbury, 57, of 335 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of violating an abuse prevention order.
