Vehicle Crashes into Business on Highland Avenue

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:


Sunday, July 14
:

  • At 4:14 p.m., police responded to a report of someone driving a dirt bike through Gallows Hill Park.
  • At 4:18 p.m., police responded to a report of a man taking pictures of children on Central Street. Officers spoke with the man, who told them he was just taking pictures of the water fountain.
  • At 5:18 p.m., police located a bike on Salem Street that had previously been reported stolen. The owner picked up the bike at the police station.
  • At 6:36 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute at Mack Park.
  • At 6:58 p.m., a woman called police to report that the rear passenger window of her Jeep had been smashed out while the vehicle was parked near the intersection of Hillside and Looney avenues.
  • At 7:18 p.m., a man on Florence Street called police to report that he just saw two people steal plywood and leave the area in a green station-wagon.
  • At 7:41 p.m., police responded to a report of kids knocking trash cans into the street near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Szetela Lane.
  • At 8:01 p.m., police responded to a dispute at Wendy's on Lafayette Street.
  • At 8:08 p.m., an employee at the Subway on Canal Street called police to report that the business' outside flag had been taken. The flag was later returned.
  • At 9:30 p.m., a Boston Street man called police to report that his moped was stolen earlier in the night.
  • At 10:14 p.m., a wallet discovered near the intersection of Loring Avenue and Raymond Road was turned over the police at the police station.

Monday, July 15
:

  • At 2:39 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man going through backyards on Boardman Street. Responding officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.
  • At 3:21 a.m., a Bridge Street resident called police to report a suspicious person at the front door. Responding officers were unable to locate anyone in the area.
  • At 8:27 a.m., police received word that a car crashed into a building on Highland Avenue. A woman told responding officers that she was startled when another motorist sounded their horn and accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake. The car reportedly crashed into Salem Highland Realty Trust. There was no apparent structural damage and no reported injuries.
  • At 9:02 a.m., police responded to a report of an abandoned motor vehicle near the intersection of Bridge Street and Merrill Avenue.
  • At 10:23 a.m., police disposed of two hypodermic needles discovered on Mall Street.
  • At 11:14 a.m., an arrest was made on Fort Avenue. Andrew M. Noya, 25, of 159 Fort Ave., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 12:43 p.m., a man called police to report that two of his vehicle's tires were slashed overnight on Washington Street.
  • At 1:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a past sexual assault on Highland Avenue.
  • At 2:42 p.m., police stopped an erratic operator near the intersection of St. Peter and Bridge streets. Denise M. Antony, 55, of 9 Grafton St., Salem, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs (second offense) and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
