Man Finds a Mystery Machete in His Car

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Friday, July 12

  • At 5:52 p.m., a man called police to report that his bike was stolen from his backyard on High Street.
  • At 6:32 p.m., a Cross Avenue man called police to report that he was the victim of an online fraud.
  • At 6:50 p.m., police responded to a report of a man exposing himself to a train conductor on Bridge Street. Responding officers spoke with a train conductor who said one of the regular passengers has been urinating after leaving the train the last few days. The officers watched as the man got off of the train and he didn't urinate. He was advised to use the proper facilities.
  • At 7:09 p.m., police located a woman known to have an outstanding warrant near the intersection of Palmer and Park streets. Isabella J. Moore, 17, of 56 Dow St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 7:24 p.m., a Lemon Street woman called police to report that someone recently stole a laptop valued at $1,000 out of her bedroom.
  • At 7:32 p.m., police responded to a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Congress and Palmer streets.
  • At 8:14 p.m., a man entered the police station to report that he found a black machete and sheath under the driver's seat in his car. The machete was turned over to police.
  • At 8:20 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Summit and Glendale Avenue. Nathaniel Gonzalez, 20, of 65 Salem St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 8:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a man "acting odd and going to houses" on Quadrant Road.
  • At 9:21 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Clark Avenue. Michelle Hairston will be summonsed to court on two counts of domestic assault and battery, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (door, keys) and malicious destruction of property.
  • At 9:25 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Dow and Park streets. Shannon E. Bohn, 29, of 145 Washington St., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class A substance (heroin).
  • At 9:59 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Marlborough Road and Verdon Street.
  • At 10:07 p.m., police responded to a loud house party on Valley Street.
  • At 10:10 p.m., police responded to a report of people fishing at the pier at Salem Willows Park.
  • At 10:33 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Park Street.
  • At 10:36 p.m., police responded to a report of stolen firewood on Bridge Street.
  • At 11:07 p.m., police responded to a report of homeless people sleeping under a bridge on Congress Street. The men were advised not to sleep there anymore.
  • At 11:29 p.m., police responded to a report of a car window vandalized with a BB pellet on Fort Avenue.
Saturday, July 13

  • At 12:43 a.m., a woman called police to report that a man she has a restraining order against assaulted her. The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. Jonathan W. Panient, 24, of 12 Pope St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant. 
  • At 1:41 a.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Collins Street.
  • At 2:20 a.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Franklin Street and Moulton Avenue.
  • At 2:32 a.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Grove Street.
  • At 3:01 a.m., police made an arrest on Park Street. Frank C. Moore, 29, of 32 Park St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 7:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a loose dog on Walter Street.
  • At 1:01 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident near the intersection of Marlborough Road and Orleans Avenue.
  • At 2:41 p.m., police responded to a report of an unruly customer at the Dollar Store on Canal Street.
  • At 3:33 p.m., a Jackson Street man called police to report that their medication was stolen.
